Cheap Lift Passes Nozawa
Still Snowing in Nozawa Onsen
It’s surely shaping up as being the week of the season with another significant snowfall since the close of lifts yesterday. Waking to the sound of snow sliding off roofs and the lawnmower hum of snowblowers is always a good sign. Walking around the village huge pillows adorn cars, gigantic mushrooms threaten to bury buildings and fresh powder festoons the visible mountainsides. I feel that today will be another epic day.

We’ve had another 25 cm recorded up on the summit and about 20 cm at the mountains base so the riding will be super deep. As such the top picks will be the steeper black pistes where the gradient is needed to maintain speed. Instability remains high and after another two avalanche deaths at a nearby resort it’s a wise idea to avoid steeper off piste zones and use a very high degree of caution at all points in the backcountry.
🌄TODAY:

🌄RUNS OPEN: All except Kandahar and Grand Prix
Yesterday was a bit of a quite day with many visitors taking well earned rests after the huge week. There was pea soup fog in the village early but riding the gondola up the cloud layer was just in the valley with beautiful sunshine above about 800m asl. Slowly but surely the clouds moved in and by midday light snow was falling. This became heavy very quickly and by close of lifts 25cm had already fallen. The gondola was shut at about 2pm as the winds increased.
FORECAST;
Looking at the forecast ahead tomorrow we should see sun and generally fine weather up until the afternoon when clouds move over the region signalling the next snowfall. It’ll snow overnight into Thursday, likely at least 30cm+. More snowfalls are also possible into Friday as the wind remains north west. Sun is a possibility on Friday and likely on Saturday. Further ahead the model runs are looking a little uncertain at this stage but we will probably have a break from any significant snowfalls for a couple of days into next week.
