Bookings have just opened for the shuttle for the coming Snow Season in Nozawa Onsen, busy times fill fast so get in early.
Easy way to get to and from Tokyo Airports both Narita and Haneda to Nozawa Onsen. Especially if have an evening arrival you probably won’t make the train so the Shuttle is the only way to get up that night.

Your other options are the Train or Car. Cars are just not practical in Nozawa and tottaly not needed unless plan to travel around the area. Nozawa Onsen is only a small village of 3000 people and you can walk everywhere easily. It is just 1500m from one side of town the other. Train is your other option and lets face it in Japan it is hard to beat train travel. Fast, efficient, comfortable and always on time! Here are some pros and cons of the Nozawa Snow Shuttle ovet the Bullet Train when Travelling from Tokyo Airports to Nozawa Onsen or returning.
Shuttle Vs Train
- Cost wise they are about the same coming in at around 10600 Yen for Adults. Kids are a bit cheaper on the train
- Time wise not a lot in it when take in transfers and waiting form trains from the Airport. If movig train is probably a bit faster
- Ease – the Snow Shuttle is a “no brainer” you get on at the airport and it can drop you at the door of your lodging in Nozawa Onsen. They stop on the way for toilet and food breaks but no statino transfers or hauling luggage about stations.
- Comfort – Trains you have more room to move about but seat wise they are pretty similiar and as travelling at night the views are almost the same. The excitement builds as the snow starts to appear and you get closer to town
- Summary – if have kids or elderly and dont want to lug heavy bags and make atleast 2 train transfers take teh shuttle, especially if coming off a late flight. Also easy on return for the same reasons. If overnighting in Tokyo then take the train. On the return you can also get the Shuttle to Tokyo City.
