Nozawa Onsen Spring Snow Report, 8th of April 2019
The clouds have well and truly rolled in today. It’s misty and ominous looking around town and on the mountain. According to the forecast for tonight, that could mean a whole heap of new white stuff for the top of Mount Kenashi. Well into the double-digits is forecast for the summit. Temperatures may prevent rain from turning to snow down in the village so don’t let conditions fool you upon waking up.
It’s difficult to predict exactly what will happen a day out but if temperatures should happen to drop, who knows? Either way, it looks as though the top of the mountain is the place to be, as it so often is.
But for now, what’s the official word from the top of the mountain this morning?
At 7:06 am;
Temp at the top; 0C
New snow since close; 0cm
Base at the top; 285cm
Weather; cloudy
We’ve still got some glorious spring skiing conditions ahead of us, ladies and gents. However, let’s consider the months where we aren’t sliding around on top of Mount Kenashi, for a moment. As one of our repeat guests mentioned recently, “there’s actually more to do during summer”. There are far fewer people around of course but it’s true. In addition to hosting yoga retreats, Nozawa Onsen also sees the main Nagasaka Gondola open for six weeks or so, during July and August, for mountain biking. There’s a burgeoning MTB scene in Nozawa with pros on hand to help design the courses.
Aside from the above, there’s road-biking, running events, hiking along cedar-lined trails to beautifully-hidden shrines and of course, the fresh mountain produce. Nozawa Holidays hosts both gyoza making classes and calligraphy classes, while there are also many other authentic experiences we can help you access in and around town.
With all of the above in mind, we put together a long-stay package for the Green Season which means guests can spend a month in Nozawa for cheaper than the price of rent at home!
Check it out below and get in touch if you like the sound of it.
