Memories Nozawa Onsen Japan
All about the base in Nozawa
Spring conditions continue today but some early cloud cover keeping temps down. Beautiful day to get up in the mountains and take in some turns and those views. Yesterday we talked about the base level in Nozawa. This shot taken a few days ago gives you a good idea of what 265cm of base looks like. On top of a little hut up at Yamabiko.
Looking at the graphs and a big chunk of that fell in December. On the snow fall front we had our second biggest December in the last ten years. January and February snowfalls were still good and probably a bit above the average for the last 10 years. Safe to say after a slower year last year Nozawa is back to her old self. Let’s hope that continues for next season too.
Temp at the top; 1 degrees
New snow since close; 0 cm
Base at the top; 265 cm
Snow conditions; Spring skiing
Weather; Cloudy day ahead and fairly cool the next few days
Looking at the forecast and a little bump has just popped up for Saturday and we should see some fresh for the top of the mountain. Unfortunately not sure if temps will be cold enough to see it crystallise at the bottom. Sunday should ease so may be the pick of the days.
Yesterday the 11th of March marked the 10 Year anniversary of the Great Earthquake and Tsunami that shook Japan. Here in Nozawa we didn’t actually feel much but the next day, today 10 years ago we had a very strong earthquake just nearby that damaged the Gondola and parts of the village. The Resort went very quiet after that but the snow kept coming. Our thoughts to all of those that were affected. Here is a report for this day 10 years ago in Nozawa https://www.lodgenagano.com/blog/the-day-after-in-nozawa-onsen/
Stay Safe and reflect.
