Best Snow in Japan
New Season High in Nozawa
Nozawa Onsen Snow Report 9th of February 2021.
Big night of snow fall across the Resort in Nozawa Onsen. Over half a meter accumulating and the base hitting a season high of 345cm this morning. Just 1 meter more than last season and still going. We got hit with a Siberian storm last night and it was blizzard like conditions down in town. The meant waking up to 40cm of fresh snow on the hill and it kept going this morning. Just starting to ease now and some amazing conditions on offer in a mainly empty resort.
Temp at the top; -7 degrees
New snow since close; 49 cm
Base at the top; 345 cm
Snow conditions; Powder again today
Weather;Snowing consistently and should ease in the afternoon
Best Snow in Japan
Yesterday was fantastic too but think today even better. Great to see the base line climb and making everywhere really nice. Just take it easy with all this fresh snow out there. Enjoy the powder while it lasts as looks like we may be in for a little February Funk over the next few days with lots of sun and warmer temps. Dropping back down and more snow next week though. Anyway nice and cold up there today so rug up and go deep
So is Nozawa the best snow in Japan? Good question and hard too answer. Some days and some season we probably are but most resorts in Japan have thier best days depending on how the flakes fall. Nozawa is close to the Japan Sea so we get the full brunt of the Siberian Storms and the Late Effect that happens over winter every year.
Weather systems blow across from the Russian continent, gather moisture over the Japanese Sea then hit the mountains like Nozawa located along the sea board and unload some amazing deep Japanese Powder.
