Bike Hire:
The best way to make your way around Nagano is on a bike. Fast and easy, meaning you can make it to all the best food stops in one day. Matsumoto Shokai, just outside the Nagano train station and to the left, has a perfect collection of bikes available for hire. The staff are super helpful and will point you and your crew in the direction of the Zenkō-ji Temple.

Me-ya Bagel:
First stop should always be for a bagel. Me-ya Bagel is the perfect destination to satisfy your bagel cravings. With an array of sweet and savoury choices, you’re bound to find the perfect treat. Me-ya Bagel is conveniently situated close to Nagano Station, a quick and easy detour before starting your day of touring around Nagano.
Zenkō-ji Temple:
The Zenkō-ji Temple is a Buddhist temple located north of Nagano Station and is a must see stop in Nagano. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, and with the winter bringing a light dusting of snow on the grounds, the temple is a true paradise. Leading up to the temple is Zenkoji Nakamise Street, which is scattered with small food stands and souvenir shops. The ultimate spot to try some new foods.
Nagano Prefectural Art Museum:
If you’re looking for a bit of peace and quiet, the Nagano Prefectural Art Museum is an ideal spot to walk around and take in the beauty of Japanese art. Holding more than 4,500 artworks, the art gallery showcases landscape paintings of Nagano as well as a collection of Higashiyama Kaii’s, one of the greatest nihonga painters, own works and related books.
Malika Brewery (if you’re over 20yrs of age):
If you’re over the age of 20, Malika Brewery is the best place for trying locals craft beers. Housing a selection of their own craft beers, the small brewery nestled in a side street in Nagano also sells beers from breweries located around the area. With a small selection of bar snacks and an awesome view of the city, Malika Brewery is a great spot to rest your legs after a long day of bike riding around the city.
