But up high the peaks are piercing through the clouds, bathed in the golden glow of morning sunshine. This valley fog is characteristic of stable weather and that is what is expected today with calm winds and clear skies expected. We have received a good Overnight Dump Nozawa of 25cm up top and a solid coating in the village of about 10-15cm, bringing the Christmas coat back to Nozawa Onsen. Overcast conditions prevail and for the past 24 hours extremely warm temperatures, reaching upwards of 15C in the village, have resulted to some damage to the lower slopes. Luckily a repair is fast en route, courtesy of a Siberian freight train of cold air and snow. The break in the snow is being appreciated by the local farmers, giving them a little window of opportunity to bring in the final crops of the year before the snow takes over the landscape. Most lifts have now opened down to Hikage so there were plenty of slopes to shred. Base at top: 115 cm Temp at Top: -11 Degree Base at Uenotaira station: 90 cm New snow since close: 5cm Weather: Snowing Still snowing lightly in the village this morning and it snowed most of the day yesterday in Nozawa. Great conditions up top with about 10cm of fresh snow covering most of the runs all day and still very few crowds. Today is the official opening of the resort and a lot more lifts and runs are open today.
