Just got back from the Ski show in Sydney and many people were concerned it was getting hard to find a bed in Nozawa in January. Sure some of the most popular lodgings are getting busy but there are still lots of great options. Shinazawa is one of them, a beautifully kept lodge with views across the valley and right next to the shuttle bus stop. Here is a link https://www.nozawaholidays.com/properties/shinazawa-lodge-nozawa-onsen-village/ It is still only a 250m walk to the Karasawa lifts that connect to the main Nagasaka Gondola. Run by Mr. and Mrs. Shinazawa and their family, they work non-stop to ensure you have a terrific stay in Nozawa. We have been introducing overseas guests there for many years now […]

Flashback Friday; 13th of March 2012 – Ushikubi Course below the Nagasaka Gondola in Nozawa
March for me is one of the best months any year as we have an established snow base, no crowds, great weather and still get some nice dumps. The March of 2012 in particular we got on a roll in the middle of the month and had a bunch of days with 20cm plus dumps on top of almost 400cm base so there were insane conditions everyday. Check out the posts with snow reports around those days here http://www.lodgenagano.com/blog/great-day-to-be-alive-in-nozawa/ That photo is taken riding up on the Nagasaka Gondola and I am sure anyone that has ridden it just loves the way as you get higher the views just reveal themselves. You can see for miles across the village on […]
Nozawa Onsen is a pretty Photogenic little Village tucked away in Nagano
Nozawa Onsen is a pretty photogenic little Village Some of the most beautiful images come from our guests and we thank them very much for sharing their amazing holiday memories. These great shots are by David Larcombe that visited us over the New Years period last season. Shot at Ogama the Cooking Onsen, The Yuzawa Shrine and the famous nearby Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park. If you have any photos you would like to share then please send them to us at team@nozawaholidays.com The Village also runs a best photo contest every year that you can enter into. If you have never been to Nozawa or keen to get back and experience the beauty on and off the slopes please click […]
Time to take a trip to Japan and visit Nozawa Onsen
Looks like Jetstar has a Birthday Sale on, not sure if many great deals for Japan yet but i saw can get return for about $800 in February which is pretty good. ANA also doing some good deals for then too. Found this great little clip on a trip some guys did to Japan last year. They mention the amazing balance between a rich tradition and a futuristic present that Japan does so well. Nozawa Onsen is similar in many ways with the Traditional Shrines, Onsen Houses and Ryokans scattered about the village. Then the back drop of the modern ski lifts and gondolas taking the skiers up to the top of Mt Kenashi to enjoy the amazing snow conditions […]
Stay with a local family in a Minshiku Ski Lodge in Nozawa Onsen
Nozawa Onsen has been a popular destination for travellers for hundreds of years and there is a very wide range of accommodation options in our little village. Ryokans are traditional style Inns or Hotels, they are generally quite upmarket and a higher price. Minshikus are a less expensive family run style, still traditional but less formal and in Nozawa are run by friendly local families that open their doors to guests from all over the world. We work closely with lots of these Inns and guesthouses in the village and will try and introduce you to more of them in the next few months to help give you an idea of some of the terrific accommodation offerings in Nozawa […]
50 Shades of Green in Nozawa Onsen
The forest surrounding Nozawa unfolds to give endless hiking possibilities. You can check out all those places you thought about venturing in Winter. Maybe even find a lost ski or Go Pro! These guys are on the lookout for Mountain Vegetables to make into Tempura for their lunch. You can take guided tours too from the Tourist office in town. There are lots of wild vegetables that are edible and taste delicious but best to go with one of the elder members of the village so you know you are picking the right things….
Summer time in Nozawa Onsen Japan
A Solitary Paddle a great way to cool down on a hot day in Nozawa The mercury has been heading up the last few days in Nozawa and it is getting hot! Luckily there are some cool escapes in Nozawa, this little lake just a few kilometres away. You can also hike or ride up to the top at Yamabiko and it is always a few degrees cooler than in the village. We have the morning markets on in town today too if want to take a wander down. There are also some amazing hiking trails in the forest up behind this lake. You can hike up to a mountain temple and even walk all the way back to Nozawa […]
Flash Back Friday – 10th of January 2011- Book Early if coming January
Remember this day coming out of the Nagasaka Gondola building and looking to the right and seeing this perfection on the Kokenashi course. With the trees sparkling and 20cm of fresh snow. We had had a few good dumps in a row then. It was a Monday so no one around and still not many overseas guests in those days so was nice and empty for a perfect blue bird day. Here is the report http://www.lodgenagano.com/blog/snow-show-continues-in-nozawa-onsen/ Many people come up in mid January now and this is what you can usually expect for conditions. January generally tends to be the month that we get our most snow fall overall, but it is also the busiest month. If you are thinking […]
The Four Seasons of Nagano and Nozawa Onsen
All this talk about the Green season it is important to note Japan has 4 very distinct seasons. Something you don’t get in all parts of the world and one of the attractions for somewhere like Nozawa Onsen as it is amazing to experience the dramatic changes between each season. Like most things in Japan it is usually pretty much like clockwork too and the mood, temperature, colours and textures all seem to change when they are supposed to – 4 times of the year. I love experiencing all 4 seasons and the amazing changes that take place in the surrounding nature. Check out this great little video on the Four Seasons of Nagano
