Base up top: 240 cm    Temp Top; -8 Degrees Base at bottom; 130 cm New Snow since close: 5-15 cm Weather; Mostly sunny   We have a nice clear morning here in Nozawa Onsen. Mostly sunny with the occasional low lying clouds in the valleys leading to some great views of the surrounding alps. Crowd levels are not too bad for a weekend either. Since close of lifts we have had 5cm fall at the top and the bottom of the mountain, with 10-15cm falling mid mountain. This indicates windblown conditions so the will be some quality deep stashes in the more sheltered locations. Since the close of lifts yesterday we have had 10cm of fresh fall (3cm fell the night prior). It will be nice skiing across the whole resort with the cool temps and light crowds. Off piste south and west facing slopes have a crust layer just below the fresh snow. Clear skies meant perfect conditions for the fire festival the night before last. Base up top: 245 cm    Temp Top; -11 Degrees Base at bottom; 130 cm New Snow since close: 0 cm Weather; Clear, fog in the valleys   Its a picture perfect morning in Nozawa Onsen, but only if you are up high on the mountain.  The village is cloaked in low-lying fog, however up high we have a beautiful clear blue sky and light winds. Truly a spectacular sight with the towering Japanese Alps rising out of the fog bathed in golden early morning light. Base up top: 250 cm    Temp Top; -10 Degrees Base at bottom; 130 cm New Snow since close: 10 cm Weather; Light snow Its pretty much a carbon copy of yesterday in Nozawa Onsen, just with 10cm instead of 30cm of fresh snow. Very cold temperatures across the resort, -10C at the top, means the powder will be in excellent condition. Light snow is still falling and expected to continue on and off today. Yesterday was outstanding with deep but not bottomless powder. This meant that many of the slighter gradients were skiable without getting stuck, great for those just starting out in the powder. Base up top: 250 cm    Temp Top; -10 Degrees Base at bottom; 140 cm New Snow since close: 20-30 cm Weather; Snow As expected it has dumped overnight in Nozawa Onsen, and dumped hard. 30cm of fresh powder has been recorded up near the summit of Mt Kenashi and 20cm down in the village. At the moment snow is still falling at moderate levels and the upper mountain is soaked in fog. Winds are gusting strong up top so be ready for very cold temperatures with a wind chill of around -20C. We have some light cumulus clouds hovering around delivering the occasional snow shower. Since the close of lifts 5cm of fresh has fallen on the upper slopes and a dusting recorded down lower. Visibility is very good across all elevations. Best riding today will be had all over the mountain from a snow quality standpoint. Base up top: 250 cm    Temp Top; -9 Degrees Base at bottom; 130 cm New Snow since close: 5 cm Weather; Snow showers After an insane day yesterday the snowfalls have abated and at the moment we have some interesting oceanic weather conditions. Highly isolated light snow showers mixed with clouds and sunny breaks. The temperatures are pretty cold, especially up top where -9C is the current reading. The fresh powder is deep and plentiful across all areas of the resort. Its hard to go wrong anywhere really. Groomers are fast and soft, trees and off piste has vast tracts of deep powder. Base up top: 210 cm    Temp Top; -4 Degrees Base at bottom; 85 cm New Snow since close: 18 cm Weather; Snow   Good news, its dumping in Nozawa Onsen! The snow started to fall earlier than expected just after dark last night and after a brief respite during the early hours of the morning began to fall at heavier levels around 3am this morning. Temperatures are still rather moderate sitting around 0 in the village and -4C up top, although we expected this to drop later in the day. Base up top: 200 cm    Temp Top; +4 Degrees Base at bottom; 80 cm New Snow since close: 0 cm Weather; Overcast We have a marginal morning here in Nozawa Onsen. The good news is that high clouds are racing across the skies indicating an approaching cold front expected tonight. But for the time being we have prefrontal warmth with temperatures into the positives. Best areas for skiing today will be the groomed runs which should be slightly wet, especially later in the day. Yesterday was yet another great day in Nozawa Onsen. Good knee deep off piste conditions remained until the afternoon, when the snow became slightly heavy.
