Crystal clear blue sky with not a cloud in sight, light winds, very cold temperatures and plenty of deep fresh. Atmospheric visibility is top notch so the views from the top will be superb. Look west for views of the Sea of Japan and Sado island offshore. Today all piste courses will be excellent; fast and smooth and will remain that way well into the afternoon with the light crowds. All upper off piste areas will be outstanding with vast expanses of untracked powder. Yesterday turned out […]

Continued freshies
Base up top: 200 cm Temp Top; -4 Degrees Base at bottom; 85 cm New Snow since close: 1 cm Weather; Light snow This morning in Nozawa we have some light snow falling across the resort. Although quite wet at the moment, temperatures are set to drop to around sea level seeing an improvement in the snow quality later in the afternoon. Visibility is limited on the top half of the mountain and winds are gusting moderate at the summit. Best skiing today will be tree lined groomers in the morning transitioning to the upper trees as snow accumulates during the afternoon. Overnight Dumpage
Base up top: 200 cm Temp Top; -5 Degrees Base at bottom; 75 cm New Snow since close: 20 cm Weather; Heavy snow Its dumping in Nozawa Onsen! The heavily anticipated first flakes began to fall late yesterday afternoon and increased into the night. We have had 20cm fall up top and 15cm in the village, although these readings were taken at 7am, its likely that twice as much has fallen since then. Temperatures are colder than yesterday with a freezing level of around 600m. Winds are strong across the mountain so be prepared for very cold windchill and wind hold on some lifts. Seek out tree lined runs for protection from the winds and improved visibility in […]

Base up top: 180 cm Temp Top; -3 Degrees Base at bottom; 60 cm New Snow since close: 0 cm Weather; Overcast For the first day of the year we have overcast skies and no new snow to report. It seems that the system expected to arrive overnight is slightly delayed. Snow should start to fall later today and continue into tomorrow. Temperatures are relatively warm at the moment, but should cool quickly later today and the best skiing should be the groomed runs, with off piste being variable with a surface crust. Yesterday was a nice day for the groomers and off piste up high. Crowds were better than expected with the longest lift lines being no […]
Light snow for the last day of 2013
Base up top: 190 cm Temp Top; -6 Degrees Base at bottom; 70 cm New Snow since close: 5 cm Weather; Overcast Five centimetres of fresh has been recorded overnight in Nozawa Onsen. Since the close of lifts yesterday we have had 10cm of snowfall on the upper mountain and 5cm across the lower reaches.
