Since last lifts yesterday we have had 15cm up top and 5cm in the village. There should be fun riding throughout the resort today, but likely there will be a bit of a dust-on-crust phenomenon occurring. The snowfalls will continue till sometime tonight so the riding should improve through the day. It seems this upcoming system has been delayed. This is often the case when forecasting the weather for skiing in Japan. The models are excellent in predicting whether there will be snow or not, but the timing can sometimes be off. Again, the sunrise mountain alpenglow provided an impressive spectacle and cloud-free night ensured we have no new snow to speak of. The groomed runs should be firm and fast today with cold overnight temperatures and it’s still possible to find fresh tracks off-piste with a bit of a search. Base up top:  250cm        Temp Top;  -2 Degrees Base at bottom;  140cm New Snow since close: 5cm Weather; Clear, sunny, light winds After brief snow flurries yesterday afternoon we woke to a clear full blue day here in Nozawa Onsen and a brilliant alpenglow shining on the mountains across the valley. Currently there is no wind to speak of and not a cloud in the sky, perfect! It looks like the variable weather forecast for today will not eventuate. Likely blue skies and sun will remain for the day, perhaps with a couple of clouds moving in from the west later in the afternoon. After a spectacular clear starry night a cloud front moved in around breakfast and we are currently experiencing some light snow which should continue for the rest of the day. There are still quite a few fresh tracks to be found around the resort if you know where to look and the skiing is excellent in all areas of the resort. Yesterdays partly cloudy blue skies and light winds prevailed throughout the afternoon. Cold temperatures ensured the snow remained in top quality even with the sun. […]

Light snow flurries continued overnight giving a minor top up to the cover. However the dawn saw the clouds part and give way to sun and perfect blue skies. This is one of those days to remember with plentiful deep snow, minimal wind and excellent visibility. Yesterday saw continued moderate to occasionally heavy snowfalls but the extremely flat light made skiing outside the trees challenging, especially up high. Base up top:  275cm        Temp Top;  -10 Degrees Base at bottom;  170cm New Snow since close:  60cm Weather; Moderate snow After yesterdays dump the snow has continued overnight delivering an additional 60cm of powder, much to the delight of punters. This sorely needed top up has returned Nozawa Onsen to the magical winter wonderland that we all know and love, with seemingly limitless fresh lines and many buried cars. At the moment in Nozawa we have cold temperatures and continued snow falls albeit at a lesser intensity in comparison with the last 36 hours. Base up top: 215 cm        Temp Top; -7 Degrees Base at bottom; 105 cm New Snow since close: 50 cm Weather; Dumping Epic conditions this morning are only improving with consistent heavy snowfalls and 50cm of overnight. After a bit of a snow drought everyone was keen to get up for first lifts this morning and those who did certainly scored! It was an interesting morning yesterday. The warm conditions gave way to a cold front which moved over the region in the afternoon. Since then the snow has been dumping non-stop which has seen a major improvement to the piste courses, although off-piste still needs a little more. Base up top: 170 cm Temp Top; -3 Degrees Base at bottom; 75 cm New Snow since close: 1 cm Weather; Sunny clouds rolling in Clear skies last night gave way to a few snow flurries this morning with just a centimeter freshening up the cover up top. The clouds soon cleared and now we have had some sun making an appearance so it looks like a beautiful day for riding and the groomers will be in fine form to lay down a few carves as they soften up in the sun.
