Although quite wet at the moment, temperatures are set to drop to around sea level seeing an improvement in the snow quality later in the afternoon. Visibility is limited on the top half of the mountain and winds are gusting moderate at the summit. The heavily anticipated first flakes began to fall late yesterday afternoon and increased into the night. We have had 20cm fall up top and 15cm in the village, although these readings were taken at 7am, its likely that twice as much has fallen since then. Temperatures are colder than yesterday with a freezing level of around 600m. Winds are strong across the mountain so be prepared for very cold windchill and wind hold on some lifts. It seems that the system expected to arrive overnight is slightly delayed. Snow should start to fall later today and continue into tomorrow. Temperatures are relatively warm at the moment, but should cool quickly later today and the best skiing should be the groomed runs, with off piste being variable with a surface crust. Base up top: 190 cm    Temp Top; -6 Degrees Base at bottom; 70 cm New Snow since close: 5 cm Weather; Overcast   Five centimetres of fresh has been recorded overnight in Nozawa Onsen. We currently have overcast conditions above the village and temperatures are cool at the summit, warmer down low. Best areas of the resort will be the upper half if your hunting some fresh or throughout all groomers if your just cruising. If the village last night was any indication then the slopes will be busy today so pick your skiing areas carefully. New Year and the fire festival are the two busiest times in Nozawa Onsen. Base up top: 190 cm    Temp Top; -3 Degrees Base at bottom; 75 cm New Snow since close: 0 cm Weather; Clear   Another sunny clear day today in Nozawa Onsen although temperatures are warmer than the past couple of days. Very light winds across all areas of the resort. Best areas are the groomed runs and Yamabiko area where snow is light and dry; altogether excellent conditions on offer higher up. Yesterday was an almost perfect day with deep, dry fresh snow on offer although many areas became tracked fast with the holiday crowds. Base up top: 210 cm    Temp Top; -10 Degrees Base at bottom; 75 cm New Snow since close: 10 cm Weather; Clear   Its such a nice morning in Nozawa Onsen today. We have light winds, cold temperatures, bluebird sunshine and plenty of fresh pow. Nice! Since close of lifts we have had an additional 20cm fall across the resort. With all the fresh snow tree runs are gradually filling in and the groomed runs are very nice also. Top picks today will be the un-groomed blacks early and Yamabiko trees.   Base up top: 195 cm    Temp Top; -11 Degrees Base at bottom; 80 cm New Snow since close: 10 cm Weather; Isolated snow showers. Its a real mixed bag in Nozawa Onsen this morning. We are experiencing isolated light snow showers, interspersed with patches of blue sky and sun. Temperatures are very cold; -11C at Yamabiko. Since the close of lifts yesterday we have had 10cm of snowfall on the upper mountain and 5cm across the lower reaches. Those on the mountain yesterday really scored, especially during the afternoon when consistent moderate to heavy snow showers moved over the resort. Not as much as originally expected however one can argue with fresh snow, with 10cm being recorded up high.  Best skiing will be on the upper reaches of the mountain where coldest conditions are producing the best snow quality. Yesterday had some good top to bottom skiing on the groomed runs where conditions remained smooth and fast all day. Base up top: 170 cm    Temp Top; 0 Degrees Base at bottom; 75 cm New Snow since close: 0 cm Weather; Mostly sunny After a suburb Christmas day in Nozawa Onsen we have a continuation of sunshine and light winds. With superb powder snow on offer yesterday and very few people out skiing untracked areas remained even on piste well into the afternoon. For those out skiing the quality of the conditions were perhaps the best christmas present one might ask for. At the moment we have an inversion layer across mid elevations with cooler temperatures at the bottom than top. Combined with the totals received over the preceding hours, skiing conditions should be very nice indeed. Currently, the weather is partly cloudy and should clear completely at some point during the afternoon. Winds are light at the summit.
