We woke up with a new blanket of snow down in the vilage this morning. Everyone had an early breakfast to hit the slopes and get the first of many fresh powder tracks on the mountain. It was snowing heavy all morning and will continue through out the day. Since yesterday afternoon we got more than 20cm of powder up top. Base up top: 360 cm        Temperature: -7 Degrees Base at bottom: 185 cm New Snow: 15 cm               Weather: Snowing What a day yesterday with strong winds shutting down the whole ski resort for the first time this year by lunch time. The heavy wind continued all afternoon and evening. Unlike other places in Japan there was luckily no damage reported in Nozawa. While it was raining down low, snow was falling up top and brought more than 15cm of fresh overnight. Base up top: 360 cm        Temperature: +2 Degrees Base at bottom: 190 cm New Snow: 0 cm               Weather: Overcast, Windy Not too much action today on the slopes in Nozawa. Strong winds closed down the entire mountain by lunch time and skiers could only enjoy the morning on the runs. The top lifts were closed from the start. The Challenge and the Hikage runs were still good fun to ski before the wind picked up more and forced everything to a halt. But don’t worry. Nozawa Onsen has still plenty of snow and lifts ready for you. The following lifts are still running: Yamabiko Gondola, Yamabiko chair, Yamabiko 2ND chair, Uenotaira chair, Skyline Link, Hikage chair Good conditions yesterday with some fresh powder to enjoy up top and the sun out at times. But the rain did not last very long before it turned into snow up top just before lunch time. By mid afternoon it was snowing heavy up at Yamabiko and even down in the village big snow flakes were falling from the sky. Fresh tracks all afternoon made up for a wet start in the day. Temperatures are well above freezing and it looks like we need to wait a bit longer for the snow to come. Temperatures are expected to drop through out the day so hopefully we will get the heavy snow which is on the forecast for tonight. Temperatures are in the plus and climbed up to 3 degrees on the mountain this morning. Reward for all the early birds in town with perfect conditions on the slopes and nobody around in the early hours. Is getting a bit slushy now with temperatures over 10 degrees down here in the village. But still great fun to play around and try a few new tricks in the Snow park up at Uenotaira. Heavy snow in the morning eased off a bit before lunch time only to continue strong in the afternoon. Skiers and Snowboarders were plowing their paths through knee deep powder. Visibility was limited at times but all in all a great day. Today we are in for another blue bird here in Nozawa. There is not a single cloud on the sky. Hard to believe after the warm spring temperatures yesterday afternoon. Was bucketing this morning and we got more than five centimeters of fresh snow down here in the village in under one hour. It is still snowing lightly out the window right now, so looks like another good powder day up top. Yesterday was a day like in a picture book here in Nozawa. Cloudless blue sky all day long, good snow conditions up top and you could see people sunbathing down in the village. […]
