The sun stayed hidden for most of yesterday with several complete white-outs during the day on the mountain as the mist rolled in and sunk into the valleys. But the sun will be back today! Waking up snowy Nozawa Yesterday offered a lovely respite from the constant Snowy winter days we had been experiencing, with gorgeous azure skies and sunshine that defrosted cold bodies. It was so warm it almost felt like a spring skiing day up on the mountain. The day was filled with the echoes of snow sliding off village roofs. From the top of Yamabiko, you could see all the way to the Sea of Japan. But this morning, the clouds have descended and every one in town is waking up to lovely large flakes lofting from the sky. Starry night skiing Nozawa It’s the first weekend of 2023! This weekend is a long weekend in Japan with Monday a public holiday celebrating Seijin no hi or Coming of Age day. It is held in order to congratulate and encourage all those who have reached or will reach the age of Maturity which is 20 Years old in Japan and they are officially Adults. Powder Day Nozawa Onsen Yesterday we had the most epic of powder days! With more than one metre of fresh snow falling over the last few days, the resort has been full of eager people excited to experience the best of the Japanese winter. Most of the resort is open now and there are so many wondrous places to explore. Will be even better today with almost another “: Half a Meter” of snow falling overnight! One of the best runs is Skyline. It’s a long looping track tracing down the side of the mountain, offering beautiful views down into the valley and Nozawa Onsen lying far below. Snow filled January Nozawa It’s a ‘half a meter Monday’ with a massive 60cm or “Two Magic Feet”  of fresh snow falling overnight up top at Yamabiko! Probably only one foot in the village but what a fantastic dump. It’s an awesome top up after the previous two gorgeously sunny days gave us Spring skiing conditions, with the layers shed. The snow will continue to fall throughout the day with another 30cm of fresh snow expected to fall by the end of the day!
