Early Bird Special Nozawa First “Magic Foot” of Snow for the Alps Up at the peak of Hotakadake mountain, the third highest mountain in Japan at 3190m above sea level they got close to 30cm of snow just yesterday! The report says there was nothing in the morning but it snowed all day and almost a foot accumulated on the doorstep of the mountain hut there. The hut is set up for Mountain climbers to stay in over the green season and it’s open for just 2 more days before going into hibernation for the Winter. First Snow Nozawa 2022
First Snow Nozawa 2022 Snowy Peeks from Nozawa this Morning Beautiful crisp clear start to the day in Nozawa with temps as low as 3 degrees. It is going to be a fresh day with a high of 9 degrees expected and the highlight is we have snow on some surrounding peaks. Across the valley Mt Myoko and Mt Hiuchi pulling on their white coats for the first time this season. Looks magnificent too set against the Autumn colours below. Amazing time to be in Nozawa and watch this monumental season change take place. As the march in to the long Winter begins.

October is a magic time of year in Nozawa and many parts of Japan as the seasonal change is spectacular. All the reds, yellows and golden shades of the leaves are beautiful to see and experience. The weather is nice and cool so the perfect time to hike or mountain bike in Nozawa or the nearby amazing Shinetsu Trail. Winter Update Japan 2022 Coldest October day in 88 Years for Tokyo The mercury has dropped in Nozawa and we are turning on the heaters and stoking up the fire. All of Japan is experiencing a cold front that has seen Tokyo with its coldest day in October in nearly 9 decades. The high in Tokyo was 13 degrees. The last time it was that cold in early October was in 1934. That is 10.5 degrees below the average and more like weather we would expect to see in December!
