Golden Week Nozawa 2020 In Japan, the Golden Week is a series of four public holidays that take place within one week at the end of April to the beginning of May each year. It is usually a busy time around Japan with people travelling and visiting relatives. This year however in both Nozawa and all of Japan it will be very quiet with most places in lock down mode. The Golden Week holidays start from tomorrow with Showa Day celebrating the birthday of the former Emperor Showa who died in 1989. People often come up to Nozawa to enjoy the end of the ski season and take in the Cherry Blossoms which are now in full bloom around the […]

New Nishio Cafe Nozawa
New Nishio Cafe Nozawa A new entrant on the Cafe scene in Nozawa is Nishio Cafe down near the Nakao Bus Terminal. It is a bit of an interesting one too. Run by a lovely older couple who have settled in Nozawa from Nagoya. They did however bring the Nagoya Cafe style with them and it is an interesting twist. Basically you get a free breakfast when you order a drink so it is an amazing deal. This style of menu actually originated in Ichinomiya which is between Nagoya and Gifu, I used to live nearby there and it is a nice part of the country. No skiing though but not far to the Gifu resorts of Dynaland and […]

Farming Nozawa Onsen Japan
Farming Nozawa Onsen Japan The locals are getting busy around the village preparing the fields for farming over the green season. Next to tourism, farming is probably the biggest industry in Nozawa Onsen. In Summer every little plot of dirt is farmed in some way. Rice is the biggest crop and it is delicious, you have probably eaten it in one of the restaurants or drunk it in the local Sake. However nearly anything grows in the nutrient rich soil here and we have an abundance of flowing water. So we have a great variety of fresh produce to enjoy. For all those at home doing your own little bit of hobby farming hope it is going well. Cold day […]

New Gondola Nozawa Onsen Ohayou Gozaimasu from the last day of the Ski Season in Nozawa Today the lifts will close for the 2020 season in Nozawa and even bigger it will be the last day of the current Nagasaka Gondola. The Nagasaka Gondola first opened in 1990 so it has been an amazing 30 years of operation. It was a real game changer here at the time replacing a 4 seater lift with a 12 person high speed Gondola to get to the top. I was lucky enough to ride it in the early days and hope to get up there today for the final ride. A little fun fact when Nagasaka first opened not all of […]
