February Snow Nozawa Onsen Two Magic Feet are better then One! Another 25cm of fresh snow reported overnight for Nozawa Onsen bringing the total so far of this snow storm to 60cm! Base now at the peak so far this season with 175cm up at Yamabiko this morning. Still snowing pretty heavy right now down in the village so we should see that number increase a bit throughout the day! Powder Day Nozawa Video Powder Skis Nozawa Onsen Welcome back Winter in Nozawa Onsen Waking up to a magnificent white landscape in the village this morning and nice 20cm of fresh snow being reported for the top of the mountain. Cold temps with -5 degrees on the mercury should make for an awesome powder day on the slopes. Still snowing nicely on the doorstep right now and should continue for the rest of the day and into tomorrow. Getting heavier tonight we may get up to another 30cm on top of this. Winter Coming Nozawa Onsen If you have any faith in the forecast this time tomorrow Nozawa should be a very different place. With a Northerly wind change expected this afternoon and 40km winds bringing in a serious Siberian express to our door. Nozawa Snow Shuttle Nozawa is a pretty compact little village so unlike many resorts in Japan you don’t really need to take a shuttle bus to get around. Most all of the properties that you book through Nozawa Holidays are within easy walking distance to the slopes and the town so no need to get on a bus. However if you need to there is a Free Shuttle Service that loops around the village and connects the lower part of town to the Nagasaka Gondola and back. Spring Skiing Nozawa Onsen A touch of Spring skiing in Nozawa but won’t last long.  Yesterday was a beautiful day on the mountain, besides a cloudy start the skies cleared and we got bathed in some gorgeous sunshine. It was warm down in the village and with the southerly winds it felt a lot like a spring day. The snow conditions however were actually better than the day before as softened up early and were still fast and fun under foot up top. Terrific most of the way down the mountain except for the spring like slush at the bottom. Nozawa Onsen Ski Patrol Windy night in Nozawa We had some crazy winds last night in Nozawa and it was super cold walking the streets for dinner. We even had some light snow start falling about 9pm which has given a very light dusting for the top this morning. The trees at Yamabiko looking nice and white and there should be a little bit of a fresh on the slopes this morning. Tips Restaurants Nozawa Onsen Sun before the snow for Nozawa?   Gorgeous sunny day on the slopes in Nozawa yesterday. You could be forgiven for thinking it was spring down the bottom of the mountain as things warmed up yesterday but up the top was still nice and cold and kept the snow in good condition. Australia Day Nozawa Onsen Happy sunny Australia Day from Nozawa Onsen Bit of a festive weekend with the Chinese New Year and Australia Day falling on the same weekend this year. Chinese New Year is normally a bit later in February but this year it is all in January. Which could mean we are in for a quieter February than normal.
