Winter Update Japan 2022 Coldest October day in 88 Years for Tokyo The mercury has dropped in Nozawa and we are turning on the heaters and stoking up the fire. All of Japan is experiencing a cold front that has seen Tokyo with its coldest day in October in nearly 9 decades. The high in Tokyo was 13 degrees. The last time it was that cold in early October was in 1934. That is 10.5 degrees below the average and more like weather we would expect to see in December! First Snow Japan 2022 First Snow of the Season in Japan The first fall at a ski Resort in Japan for the coming winter season was reported this morning at Kurodake in the north of Hokkaido. Mt Fuji has already seen some snow but Kurodake Ropeway is as usual our go to for first snow falls at a resort in Japan. The first now last year was on Oct 19th so two weeks later. Nozawa Holidays Travel Agent A cool change is in the Air in Nozawa Yesterday was a warm day in town and lots of wind as the Typhoon off the coast dragged some hot air up from Okinawa. Today is a lot cooler with low cloud cover hovering over the village and some light rain. Current temp in town is 22 degrees and about 16 up top at Yamabiko. In just 3 months we could be well under a blanket of white snow like the first photo of the village taken in December last year. The second shot is from Spring as the snow receded.
