Bear Nozawa Onsen Japan There’s a Bear or two out there in Nozawa This cute little Black Bear was spotted on the home trail between Hikage Gondola and Nagasaki Gondola just a few days ago. My kids have renamed it the “Bear Run”. Bare in mind it is rare to see a bear under a chair without a care in Nozawa. You may see them anywhere but don’t approach if you dare. Keep your distance and just stare and be aware. Bear Nozawa Onsen Japan If you cannot bare to miss out on visiting Nozawa soon jump on the site to book www.nozawaholidays.com. For all our Queensland guests looks like Jetstar has just started flights from Brisbane and doing […]

Nozawa Onsen Farming
Nozawa Onsen Farming Nozawa Onsen Farming Every day is a Rice Day in Nozawa Next to tourism over the winters, Farming is the biggest industry in Nozawa and especially rice farming. Many locals that work in the ski business in winter quickly migrate to the rice fields after the snow begins to melt. Rice from this region is quite sort after around Japan known for its great taste due to all the fresh mountain water and rich soil. Lots of the rice ends up in the delicious dishes and refreshing Sake you enjoy on your Ski Holiday. In this photo you can see one of the Rice Planting machines at work and to the left a bunch of school kids […]

Swim Ski Nozawa Japan
Swim Ski Nozawa Japan Ski and Swim in the same day in Nozawa These two photos were taken in the last two days both in Nozawa Onsen only a few kilometres apart! Yesterday was warm. I mean jump in the lake warm. Admittedly we were the only ones crazy enough to do it and the water certainly had a chill but it did feel great. Pretty amazing time of year in Nozawa seeing nature change so rapidly. Not as warm today with some clod cover in town and a cool breeze. Temps set to plummet this evening with the top falling below 0 degrees again tonight and into tomorrow, remaining cold and clear the next few days which should keep […]
Spring Like Saturday Nozawa
Spring Like Saturday Nozawa Earlier this week, a Siberian snowstorm blew an icy chill through our village, but yesterday provided a taste of Spring! It was a gorgeous bluebird day. We saw warmer temperatures in the lower degrees, and the sun graced our view for the duration of it. It was an excellent day to be out riding, getting those turns in with views all the way over to the Sea of Japan. The latest forecast has seen things improve with the next Snow dump starting from tomorrow. We will still get hit with some rain tonight into tomorrow with these warmer temps however the winds will swing favourably from the west about lunchtime Sunday. With it a cool change that will see […]
Nozawa’s nature and wildlife
Nozawa’s nature and wildlife Today the mountain webcams have been in complete whiteout all day… By the end of the day, about 20cm of fresh snow should have fallen down to 900m. Although we’ve only seen rain (and a few rainbows) in Nozawa Onsen Village itself. There was a distinct white line for the snowline just above the village this morning. The weekend forecast is still looking strong. Hopefully, Sunday will bring more than 40cm of snow, including at least 15cm down in the village. All we can do is cross our fingers and be patient. It’s been beautiful seeing the mist wrap around the forests above Nozawa Onsen today. Buna Forests Mount Kenashi and Torogi Toge in the ski […]
Nozawa Gondola Open Close
Nozawa Gondola Open Close Thats a wrap for the Gondola for this Green Season in Nozawa Next time you ride it, hopefully the scene will look like this nice and white at the top when you get off. It was a spectacular array of colours in the forest canopy below the Gondola these past weeks. You can still get to the top but need to hike, ride or drive. With the cool weather it is a beautiful time to ride up and cruise down. Have many people asking when will the Ski Resort open? The official planned opening date is for Saturday the 26th of November. Last year we saw a 30th of November opening with some early falls and […]
Autumn Hiking Nozawa Japan
Autumn Hiking Nozawa Japan Autumn changes a foot in the mountains The leaves are starting to change colour up high in Nozawa Onsen and surrounding mountains. October is a magic time of year in Nozawa and many parts of Japan as the seasonal change is spectacular. All the reds, yellows and golden shades of the leaves are beautiful to see and experience. The weather is nice and cool so the perfect time to hike or mountain bike in Nozawa or the nearby amazing Shinetsu Trail. The Gondola is open until the end of October too to get you up there, then takes a short break before opening for the winter season which could be as early as November 26th. […]
Four Seasons Nozawa Onsen
Four Seasons Nozawa Onsen Four Seasons of Nozawa at Taki No Yu Onsen Which is your favourite Onsen in Nozawa? It is a hard question with 13 free Onsens to choose from and a host of others in hotels and around the village. Some are bigger than others, some have hotter water, some have greener water, some are quiet, and some bustling. Lots of variables that will suit different folks. My personal favourite is Taki No Yu Onsen nestled up in a beautiful peaceful corner of the village. It is a good walk from the centre of town so often empty and also very cosy. These shots show the Onsen over 4 different times of the year. Some people think […]
