Snowing up top however the visibility is pretty poor. Resort reporting just 6cm of fresh so far. Christmas Booking Nozawa Onsen All the Cool Cats hang out in Nozawa Has been a magnificent run of conditions across the slopes in Nozawa with some fresh snow followed by magic days. Yesterday was no exception with superb views and snow under foot. The base was hovering at 120cm yesterday but this morning has consolidated down to just under 1 meter up top. Bars Opening Nozawa Onsen Trees that please in Nozawa This shot from yesterday when the trees up top at Yamabiko were laden heavy with frozen branches. Even after seeing these for many years always find Mother Nature amazing. Who else loves the frozen trees? Bit of a mixed bag today with cloud and sunshine. Looking at the mountains currently you would have to say it is unlikely but there is a cold change on the way. Check out the forecast attached. Season Opening 2021 Japan Opening day for Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort! The big announcement has been made and the Resort is planning to roll first lifts on the 27th of November this year. It is always hard to know if they will actually have enough cover to open that day but at least it draws a line in the snow! It is also 2 weeks ahead of last years scheduled opening date. With a few early falls who knows it may be earlier this year but after 30 years of watching it I think to be safe aim for around the second week of December then anything earlier is a bonus. Travel Australia Japan Ski Keen to get back on the Slopes? You are not the only one! This shot from Nozawa I am guessing in the 60’s. It was a popular place even back then and there were a lot less slopes to choose from than there are now. So the skiers were more concentrated. When I first started to ski in Nozawa 30 years ago we didn’t even have the Yamabiko area so it was a big thing when the resort opened that up and put in the Nagasaka Gondola.
