November Snow Nozawa day a nice distraction! Well the sun still rose this morning and we have snow on the ground in Nozawa! It snowed most of the day yesterday, which was a little more exciting to watch than the election! Some great photos from Buna restaurant up on the slopes at Uenotaira yesterday afternoon. Nothing official on the depth but guessing we got about 10cm of fresh snow. Won’t be long until those steps at the front door disappear! Normally during the season the whole ground floor of the restaurant is under about 4 meters of snow so you walk straight in off the snow into the entry level of the restaurant. Snow flakes lofting for the sky in the Village of Nozawa! As predicted temps have dropped and we are getting snow flakes falling from the sky all the way down to town! The first snow in the village this season so great to see! Temps are a little over 0 degrees in town. So it is a bit wet and probably wont last long but up top is looking nice and white all over. Snow on the charts for tonight in Nozawa! Snow forecast Nozawa Onsen looking good! Looking like will be a nice little fall too, with temps expected to plummet into this evening and a Northerly wind change bringing in a cold system from the North. They are forecasting 10cm tonight and then for it to continue lightly tomorrow. The wind is going to be pretty strong and expected to have a wind chill factor down to -18 degrees. As you can see from the chart the freezing level is dropping almost 2000m to just above 500m so we may see snow all the way down to near the village this time! Early snow dump up North overnight in Japan A nice little snowy news piece from the local news channel in Sapporo, showing 23cm dump overnight. It is the first time that they have had to clear the train tracks this year and even the locals are surprised by the early snow settling on the ground saying it is 18 days earlier than last year. Some areas in Japan are expecting another good size fall tomorrow and Wednesday with temps dipping well below 0 degrees. Early Snow also expected in Nozawa Nozawa Onsen is also expecting about 10cm tomorrow night with temps of -7 degrees and the freezing level dropping below 1000m for the first time this season. A little more White overnight in Nozawa! Down as far as Uenotaira this time too check out the cams pretty nice start to the day as the sun peaks its head out… Web Cams Nozawa Onsen It felt cold in the village this morning and sure enough we were surrounded by beautiful white mountains when we woke up this morning. The freezing level has dropped to just below 1500m above sea level so was enough spread the white goodness down as low as Uenotaira slopes. Big day for many of our regular guests Down Under today and hope you pick a winner! The race that stops Nozawa is under a bit colder conditions. Every year in mid March we have a Ski Race Nozawa weekend, which is open to all guests and locals to come and have a few fun filled days on the snow. Top to Bottom Ski Race The event is known as the Hatoguruma Cup and the highlight is Der Weisse Rausch a top to bottom free for all race from the top of Yamabiko to the bottom on a thigh burning 8km course. First Snow of the Season has hit in Nozawa! It is official still in October and we have had our first dusting of the white gold up at Yamabiko in Nozawa. It probably wont last long but enough to get a little excited about. A bit more expected on Tuesday too.
