A light dusting up the top with a total of about 5cm that fell yesterday. The trees are doing their Nozawa thing, looking beautiful and snow covered up on the mountain. MARCH BASE UPDATE NOZAWA It’s all about the base At this time of the year it is all about the base and we still have a solid one just sitting at 2.5 Meters up top at Yamabiko. This opening shot just 2 days ago. All these sunny spring days naturally chip away at it but the winds have been light so there isn’t that hair dryer affect that can melt it fast. DOG FRIENDLY NOZAWA ONSEN Nozawa’s furry friends If you’ve been riding in Nozawa you may have noticed that some of our star skiers and snowboarders happen to be dogs! They’re super speedy on the slopes and are always dressed for the weather with their boots and jackets. These rugged up dogs are a very cute addition to the Nozawa slopes. TRIP TO OBUSE NOZAWA Paradise, not just a slope in Nozawa We have had some beautiful sun filled days this week in Nozawa Onsen. The weather has been glorious, we still have awesome snow coverage across the mountain, and there have been less crowds, making it much easier to snag a table at your favourite restaurant. The slopes have been fast and fun, with the groomers leaving us fresh corduroy every morning. We have clear skies and sunshine on the menu again for today. MARCH POWDER NOZAWA ONSEN The Powder and the Glory! Waking up to blue skies and fresh snow is pretty exciting for March. With less crowds on the mountain, there will be plenty of stashes of powder to ride throughout the day, and with this sunshine, the day couldn’t get any better. As the day progressed yesterday snowflakes got bigger and more of them came down. It was dumping late in the afternoon. With 20cm fallen since close of lifts yesterday, putting the base level back over the 3 metre mark. A Spring powder day for us all! CROSS COUNTRY SKIING NOZAWA Cross-country (Nordic) skiing is a different way to enjoy winter here in Nozawa Onsen. The resort, boasting both on snow Nordic courses and official courses of the Ski Association of Japan, has a strong Nordic influence. Nozawa Onsen hosted the Nordic Biathlon event in the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics, and the official Olympic tracks are still skied on today. The Minamihara Cross Country Course, on the right of the Karasawa chair, bears both a 5KM and 7.5KM Nordic courses. The start and finish points of the courses are 80m x 120m flatground, making it an ideal training area for beginners. The course is open from late December through to late March.
