Ohayou Gozaimasu from Nozawa Onsen Magnificent morning here and would call it a “Blue Bird” day. The snow continued throughout the day yesterday and into last night and the sun is peaking out now for what will be a terrific first day of the Ski Resort! Official figures have not dropped but reckon there is about 50cm of fresh up top. The resort has not announced any more runs opening yet but can see on the cams they have groomed Yamabiko. Will have to wait and see, may even open down to the mid Gondola Station as there should be enough snow there now. Anyway check out the cams as look amazing and even better get on up there! […]

We had a nice early dump a week ago now, and there was at least 20cm of fresh deposited on the upper slopes. A few people drove up and got some turns in […]

Choosing the Right Ski Size
Ski Gear Guide | Choosing the Right Ski Size If there is one thing we hear a lot in the shop it is, “I remember my skis being nearly 2 meters long”. Yes, we have come along way since the days of skiing in our bright fluro one pieces with our knees almost glued together as we blast down the mountain. Ski technology has come along way and is constantly growing. Yes you are right that the skis used to be tall and skinny but as ski designs have changed over the past decades, so has the ideal ski lengths. Not only can it be confusing choosing the right length of ski depending on ability but there are […]

A Beginners Guide | Skiing vs Snowboarding
A Beginners Guide | Skiing vs Snowboarding Which one should I learn? There is a lot of planning involved when it comes to your first winter holiday. One of the main questions we get asked is “which is easier to learn?” or “what should I learn first?” There is an old saying that you will hear around the Ski resort, “Skiing is easier to learn but harder to master, whereas snowboarding is harder to learn but easier to master.” The truth is that people learn at different rates and choosing one or the other comes down to personal preference. Both have their pro’s and con’s when it comes to learning but it is safe to say that skiing is generally […]
Early Snow Conditions Japan
Early Snow Conditions Japan Get your Snow Dance on! Parts of Japan saw some healthy early falls of snow over the last few days. Can also see dustings of white across the valley at Myoko. The top of Nozawa may have got a little but the Mountain cams are in clouds still so hard to tell. Anyway Winter is definitely on the way and wont be too long before the streets of Nozawa look like this. Always amazing to see and experience. I prefer to go without the umbrella and feel the beauty of the snow falling on your face. Still plenty of beds in town before Christmas and good deals, the resort is planning to open November 24th […]
