Endless Blue Nozawa Skies Endless Blue Nozawa Skies Beautiful May weather in Nozawa Onsen and the surrounding area lately. The mountains never fail to disappoint and seem to be getting greener and more lush every day. Locals are bustling with farming and gardening preparations as we move into the green season. Might we suggest it’s the perfect time to stop by Atarashiya for some eel and a view into its lovely garden?

Those that go up for the second to last day of the season are sure to be greeted with stunning views and agreeable temperatures. While the season is winding down to an end, there’s still time to get some spring runs in. Yesterday, conditions were sunny and slushy but the slopes were lively with Golden Week visitors. The snow park on Yamabiko remains a fun way to switch things up! The last two days have marked the beginning of the weekend morning market in downtown Nozawa, with local businesses and farmers lining […]

Last Days of Spring Skiing
Last Days of Spring Skiing Last Days of Spring Skiing Today’s thick fog on the mountain didn’t stop anyone from enjoying the last days of Spring slush! Despite the poor visibility on the slopes and a chill that visited Nozawa this morning the freshly groomed runs made the trip up the mountain worth a while. Yesterday’s condition of the snow was excellent for carving down the Yamabiko slopes similar to what we’re seeing this morning. Conditions however might change quickly turning the snow wet and slushy with temps on the rise from Thursday night. Clear skies predicted from tomorrow morning until the weekend should give us with some stunning views to admire from the top of the mountain. […]
Finally T-Shirt weather in Nozawa
Finally T-Shirt weather in Nozawa Finally T-Shirt weather in Nozawa Yesterday was the first day since about October that I was comfortable to wear a T-Shirt in town. Have seen a few other crazy people bearing their arms earlier in the season but yesterday was a beautiful sunny day. Great day to clean the snow off the solar panels and get them to work. On the hill was also awesome especially early the snow up top was beautiful with views to match. Naturally it got slushy later but a fun day was had by all. Today should be more of the same. Fairly busy weekend with the Top to Bottom race happening tomorrow. It is probably the last […]
Season’s Peak Revisited
Season’s Peak Revisited Season’s Peak Revisited Back to peak base for the season after another White Night The snow gods have gifted us another 14cm of fresh up top overnight pushing the base at Yamabiko back to 230cm which is the equal peak this season. Think we should surpass that on Sunday morning all going well. Waking to a nice blanket of snow in the village this morning too. Not a lot down here as was a bit wet yesterday evening with temps in the village hovering just above freezing point so it didn’t really start settling until the early hours. Yesterday was another great March winters day on the hill and should be similar conditions today. Had […]
Good Looking Week Ahead
Good Looking Week Ahead Good looking week ahead for Nozawa After what was probably not the best week of the season the next week is looking good starting tonight with snow expected and set to continue all day tomorrow and into Tuesday. Today is looking fun out there, some high level cloud cover so visibility looks good up top and the trees have a white coat at Yamabiko. The groomers should be fast early and crowds should start to dissipate as the day goes on. The long weekend was busy around town but I predict it will be a lot quieter from tomorrow and then quieter again from next week as we hit March. We had a last […]
