Big weekend of snow and festivities in Nozawa Onsen With light snow showers overnight and not looking to stop until Sunday night, we are in for a treat with up to 15cm expected to fall today. Powder will still be available in some spots across the mountain, with groomed tracks filling in as the snow falls throughout the day. Moderate winds are blowing in from the NW from the morning picking up throughout the day. Colder temps around -10 are predicted but the wind chill will be closer to -20 on top of the mountain, so rug up. Skies will be cloudy but visibility on the mountain should be decent with the light snow showers but the wind could change […]

Spring Like Saturday Nozawa
Spring Like Saturday Nozawa Earlier this week, a Siberian snowstorm blew an icy chill through our village, but yesterday provided a taste of Spring! It was a gorgeous bluebird day. We saw warmer temperatures in the lower degrees, and the sun graced our view for the duration of it. It was an excellent day to be out riding, getting those turns in with views all the way over to the Sea of Japan. The latest forecast has seen things improve with the next Snow dump starting from tomorrow. We will still get hit with some rain tonight into tomorrow with these warmer temps however the winds will swing favourably from the west about lunchtime Sunday. With it a cool change that will see […]

More Snowstorms Coming Nozawa
More Snowstorms Coming Nozawa WHAT A DAY yesterday was. One of the BEST powder days of the season. The powder smiles on the slopes are as big as the spray! This is why we travel to Japan from all corners of the world – for Nozawa’s epic powder production factory! You should have been here yesterday but honestly, today could be even better. The snow gods are working overtime with another “Magic Foot,” or 32cm of fresh powder overnight for Nozawa. Today offers a slight relief from the consistent puking of snow we’ve had over the last few days. We’ve still woken up to fresh snow in the village and it’s continuing to fall right now as I write this while […]

Nearby Ski Fields Nozawa
Nearby Ski Fields Nozawa Nozawa Onsen is the perfect base to go and explore other nearby ski fields from. In fact, there are 102 ski resorts in the Nagano prefecture. And many of them are only within one to two hours drive from our village. Due to Japan’s epic public transport, there are trains and buses that also link up these other mountain resorts. You can also rent a car for a day or two from nearby Iiyama. Nozawa Onsen will always be our favourite ski resort, but if you’re looking to change things up, try some new terrain, and seek some new views then we highly recommend going for an explore. Most ski fields in Japan have pretty cheap […]
Snowstorm beginning Nozawa Onsen
Snowstorm beginning Nozawa Onsen The past weekend has been unusually spring-like and warm, with slushy, sticky snow conditions! One can’t complain about the blue skies though as they truly lift your spirits compared to being surrounded by dark, grey clouds. I popped off to Myoko Kogen over the weekend, skiing at Ikenotaira. It was a beautiful small field with epic views down onto the lower plains, over to the Sea of Japan and you can even spot Nozawa Onsen and the Skyline run in the distance. They have a nifty jump park and would be a great slope to take your family for the day. No wild boars were spotted during my weekend – have you seen the video going […]
