Bars Opening Nozawa Onsen Trees that please in Nozawa This shot from yesterday when the trees up top at Yamabiko were laden heavy with frozen branches. Even after seeing these for many years always find Mother Nature amazing. Who else loves the frozen trees? Bit of a mixed bag today with cloud and sunshine. Pretty sunset right now for the last run down of the day. We had a bit of fresh snow on the ground yesterday which has kept the base hovering at 40cm up top. Looks like another sunny day tomorrow ahead of a serious North West change on Sunday Night which should bring with it around a Magic Foot or so of fresh snow. Nice cold temps […]

Runs Open Nozawa Onsen
Runs Open Nozawa Onsen Uenotaira Run open to slide in Nozawa Always good when the resort opens up this long gentle slope as gives some good terrain for the beginners. Yamabiko is great but getting off the top lifts can be a bit daunting for newbies to the sport of skiing or boarding. Uenotaira means the top flat area and is a 2km long run so plenty of time to practice your turns. Who here loves this run? Snowing lightly up top at the moment and just a few centimetres recorded today on top of a 40cm base. Good news is temps are set to drop tonight down to -8 degrees up top and we could see up to 20cm […]

Snow Season Update Japan
Snow Season Update Japan Before and After in Nozawa Was a beautiful drive up the mountain yesterday and watching the snow flakes loft from the sky into Lake Sutaka behind Uenotaira truly majestic. Check out both shots for the difference between White and Green Seasons in Nozawa. Snow Season Update Japan A bit of sunshine today and looking white up on the slopes all they away down to Paradise. Only a very thin layer though and the Ski Resort has decided to postpone opening this Saturday. They are however using the snow blowers at full tilt, however if we get the 70cm forecast over the next few days doubt they will need them. It would not surprise me if they […]
Travel Bubble Australia Japan
Travel Bubble Australia Japan Who is getting excited about Winter? The Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort still has the opening date for the 27th of November just 10 days away! Looking at the mountains currently you would have to say it is unlikely but there is a cold change on the way. Check out the forecast attached. Next Tuesday temps are set to drop and at the moment over 30cm of fresh snow forecast to fall. Just in time for the opening weekend. Could this combined with the new snow making facilities be enough to see the lifts turn in November? Anyway a lot can happen in the stratosphere in a week so will have to wait and see but either […]
Season Opening 2021 Japan
Season Opening 2021 Japan Opening day for Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort! The big announcement has been made and the Resort is planning to roll first lifts on the 27th of November this year. It is always hard to know if they will actually have enough cover to open that day but at least it draws a line in the snow! It is also 2 weeks ahead of last years scheduled opening date. With a few early falls who knows it may be earlier this year but after 30 years of watching it I think to be safe aim for around the second week of December then anything earlier is a bonus. The JMA Weather Bureau in Japan just recently released […]
Season Accommodation Resort Japan
Season Accommodation Resort Japan When Autumn meets Winter in Nozawa Very pretty day up top at Yamabiko in Nozawa wth the fresh dusting and lots of people jumping on the Gondola to make the most of the weather and chance to play in the snow. Lots of amazing colours to absorb with reds, oranges, green, blue and white all competing for a spot in the line up. Who likes this little run just to the left of the Nagasaka Gondola top station? Always love this time of year as you get to see the transformation game that Mother Nature likes to play with us. Didn’t see anyone busting out the planks up there yet but in just over 1 month […]
First Snow Nozawa 2022
First Snow Nozawa 2022 The Powder Hounds were out yesterday in Nozawa Looking like a bit of a winter wonderland up top at Yamabiko yesterday with a decent coverage of snow across the slopes. Not enough to get any lifts turning but the main Nagasaka Gondola is open until the end of October so if head up today there should still be enough to make a snowman and throw some snowballs at your friends. Looks like we may get some more snow tonight with temps remaining below 0 degrees up top. Then a southerly change on Monday will see some more Autumn days again. It is a bit rare to get these falls in mid October so let’s hope it […]
