Shiga Kogen Nozawa Onsen A Magic Foot in Magic March Someone forgot to tell the snow gods it is late March yesterday and they kept delivering all day. Nozawa received a total of 37cm from this dump so more than the Magic Foot. It was solid winter cold on the slopes and the powder was as good as it gets with plenty of fresh tracks. This morning will be epic too as the snow eased overnight and the skies are clearing with lots of stashes of fresh snow about. Late Spring Skiing Japan?   You could easily be forgiven for not believing this is the 24th of March and getting towards the tail end of the Ski Season in Japan. Today is full blown winter in parts of Japan. After checking the forecast we took a little road trip to nearby Shiga Kogen and it is delivering the goods. Around 30cm of fresh snow overnight, -9 degrees Celsius and still dumping hard.     Spring Skiing Japan Spring into Saturday in Nozawa  We actually got a bit of snow yesterday and heavy at times. It was pretty wet down low but would have been a nice freshen up for the top. Today is looking glorious with the sun smiling across the village and slopes. Will be a great day for a slide. Kids Racing Nozawa Onsen Kids racing in Nozawa  Funky kind of morning here quite chilly with a few flakes of snow lofting from the sky earlier. Trees at Yamabiko looking white so they must have got a dusting up top. Bit of a contrast to yesterday when we had a very spring like day with plenty of sunshine and warm temps. The local Junior School kids had their annual Ski Race day and was nice and fast on the hard pack early. Was for kids in grades 1 -3 and some amazing little skiers amongst them. Social Distancing Nozawa Style Looking like another Sunny Spring day today and for the next few days ahead of some snow for the top Sunday into Monday. Public holiday tomorrow to celebrate Equinox day so should be a few people about to enjoy the long weekend. Have a great day and don’t forget the sunscreen. March is always a great time to enjoy the snow in Nozawa without the crowds. If you hike a bit then can be even less people to share it with. Strange days are these, but snow helps   Yesterday was another “Rippa” on the slopes and as one long term resident put it probably as good as any day we had in January this year. Powder was nice and plentiful, weather was sunny and there was very little competition for fresh tracks. It was best up until about lunch time when warmed up but on piste was good all day. Looks like another beauty out there today with the resort reporting 9 cm of fresh up top overnight. Looking pretty magic on the cams and sunshine expected all day. Magic March at its best in Nozawa   It is one of those days you long for fresh snow and a bluebird day in Nozawa, even more special in March. Very light winds and very few people about, it is going to be pretty special up there today. Will keep it pretty brief as need to check out the conditions for you 🙂 We ended up with about 30cm plus out of this last storm with the resort reporting 10cm since close of lifts but it was pretty blizzard like last night so will have been blown around and more would have settled in pockets. Beauty Snow Nozawa Onsen The beauty of Snow falling in Nozawa It’s dumping in Nozawa this morning! With all the uncertain times in the world at the moment there is something soothing about watching huge flakes of snow loft from the sky. So please enjoy the snow show live from Nozawa this morning. The resort reporting 10cm of fresh up top overnight but that number will build pretty quickly throughout today. If it continues to fall as forecast we can expect up to another 30cm by the end of the day. March Skiing Corona Nozawa Stunning Sunday in Nozawa Onsen   The snow and scenes up top were amazing today, nice and cold great snow under foot and lots of sunshine. Not bad for mid March! 50cm expected from tonight into tomorrow, come on up for a week and you could even get an extra 2 weeks holiday on your return! March Magic in Nozawa… The world is getting turned on its head and changing daily. All we know is so far we have been safe here in Nozawa and we know of no one with the Corona Virus at this stage. That could obviously change but here we all wear Masks, Gloves and Goggle so hope will be ok 🙂 […]

Book Now Ski Japan Sunday Snow Show in Nozawa  Waking up to some serious saucer size flakes in the village this morning. A little unexpected which always makes it that much more exciting. Went down for my morning onsen and it was snowing lightly, came out and the flakes had grown considerably. The flakes were nice and light and it is a chilly -5 degrees up top this morning. A quick check of the web cams and the trees up at Yamabiko are doing their winter thing. This fresh snow on top of yesterdays snowfall will make for a great winters day up on the slopes.
