Public Holiday Nozawa Onsen A Royal day to celebrate the Emperors Birthday in Japan Superb morning in Nozawa with the fresh snow delivered from yesterday’s blizzard like conditions and glorious sunshine shining down. A big change to yesterday when we got hit with a bit of a stealth Siberian storm across the region. Bit hard to tell how much snow fell as it was blowing around all over the place but guessing we got about 20cm. This shot was yesterday. The stats for the slopes today in Nozawa Temperature up top: -4 degrees New snow since close: 0 cm overnight but a good fall yesterday Base at top: 180 cm Snow conditions: Great conditions across the […]

Kids Ski Free Nozawa
Kids Ski Free Nozawa Tomorrow is a better day for the Kids in Nozawa The sun is just coming up here so the day is still working out what it is going to do. The forecast is saying should be snowing up top but a bit hard to tell on the web cams. The temperature has dropped and siting just below freezing point at the moment in town. It should remain cold the rest of the day and strong North West Siberian winds expected. Yesterday was a bit of a write off, after a nice sunny start to the day, the winds picked up from the south and the main Nagasaka Gondola went on wind hold til after lunch. Made […]
Spring before Siberia Nozawa
Spring before Siberia in Nozawa Yesterday was simply a beautiful day up on the slopes in Nozawa as this video from Paradise slope will confirm. Light winds, blue skies and perfect sunshine set the scene and the trees and views did not disappoint. The snow under foot was also great especially up top where it remained relatively cold all day. It did get warm and there was some spring slush down low but it was still fast and fun. Sitting out at Buna at lunch time after sliding all day and there is no better way to spend your Friday. The stats for the slopes today in Nozawa – not out yet Today is probably not going to be […]

Board Rental Nozawa Onsen Frozen Broccoli Galore for Nozawa Glorious day on the slopes yesterday and depending whether you are a “fair weather skier” or a “snow lover” your best day would have been Tuesday in the snow or yesterday in the sun. I think I am an “all weather skier” and loved both days. Let us know which kind of weather you prefer? The trees up to were doing the full “Frozen Broccoli” as my kids call it and it was truly stunning. Good Availability Nozawa Onsen
Good Availability Nozawa Onsen Happy Days in Nozawa Fantastic day on the slopes yesterday in Nozawa. The snow just kept falling all day and all those people that missed last weeks dumps were happy to have been blessed with a beautiful winters day. The Snow falls were shifting all day getting intense at times and then easing, I am not sure how much we ended up with during the day but it remained nice and cold and there were plenty of little powder stashes on offer. In some more skied on or exposed places it was a bit icy underneath but it didn’t bother anyone too much. Most were very content to get an awesome day on the slopes. […]
Snow back Nozawa Onsen
Snow back Nozawa Onsen The Snow is back in Nozawa It started to snow yesterday evening and by around 8pm when was heading for an Onsen was getting pretty heavy. Waking up to nice white scenes in the village this morning and still snowing pretty hard on and off. I can always tell about how much we have had before even looking out my window. If the neighbour is using his snow blower then it is 25cm plus, if hear the sound of the shovel scraping it was less. Was not a huge Siberian storm like dump last night so heard the shovel scrape this morning but a respectable 15cm for the top and still going strong. The good […]
Ski Racing Nozawa Onsen
Ski Racing Nozawa Onsen Time for a Cool Change in Nozawa Looks a bit foggy from the lodge window this morning in town but a quick check of the web cams and it looks pretty nice up top. The trees up the very top are turning white so they must have had a dusting up there and temps are sitting below freezing point at -1 degree this morning. We did get hit with rain in the village last night but it is clear now and the weatherman has even promised some sun later today. At the moment there are a few layers of cloud resting across the mountain so probably a matter of adjusting your altitude to stay out of […]
Ski Week Nozawa Japan
Ski Week Nozawa Japan Just a week ago in Nozawa! This shot was one of my favourites from last Sunday here in Nozawa when we had 55cm overnight. Looking out the window and a very different scene today. It has been Spring like the last week but still nice sunny days on the slopes and with all that snow we had the pistes have been good. The pendulum is set to swing back from tomorrow night though with cold temps and snow expected. I doubt we will get back to scenes like this but will be good to welcome Winter conditions again. The stats for the slopes today in Nozawa Temperature up top: 3 degrees New snow since close: 0 […]
Yu Road Nozawa Onsen
Yu Road Nozawa Onsen The “Yu Road” or moving walk way is an interesting and easy way to to get up to the slopes at Hikage from the centre of the village. It was built in the early 90s during the bubble era when the resort was packed with local Japanese skiers visiting. It takes a bit less than 10 minutes to reach the top and you come out at the Kids Park with jumping castles, magic carpets, the Zip Line and the big Nasuki! There also the Hikage Ski Centre and a bunch of great places to eat. The Hikage bowl is great skiing for all levels and the black runs of Ushikubi and Kurokura that drop into it […]
