Finally T-Shirt weather in Nozawa Finally T-Shirt weather in Nozawa Yesterday was the first day since about October that I was comfortable to wear a T-Shirt in town. Have seen a few other crazy people bearing their arms earlier in the season but yesterday was a beautiful sunny day. Great day to clean the snow off the solar panels and get them to work. On the hill was also awesome especially early the snow up top was beautiful with views to match. Naturally it got slushy later but a fun day was had by all. Today should be more of the same. Fairly busy weekend with the Top to Bottom race happening tomorrow. It is probably the last […]

A March to remember in Nozawa
A March to remember in Nozawa A March to remember in Nozawa Locals often say some years when we don’t get so much snow in January and February then March goes into overdrive. That has certainly been the case this year with many that have been here since early December calling yesterday as good as it gets. We were still getting fresh lines at 3pm yesterday afternoon. The mountain actually got another 20cm during the day on top of the 45cm we had overnight. On February 21st we had only a 160cm base and things were looking grim for March. Yesterday we hit 295cm base almost double that of just over 3 weeks ago! Today is going to […]
Half a meter March Nozawa
Half a meter March Nozawa Half a meter March Nozawa Half a meter of snow for mid March in Nozawa! Report just in from the resort and they are reporting 45cm of fresh snow for the top at Yamabiko. We didn’t get anywhere near that in town but up top with the colder temps looks like was going hard all night. The base has also jumped to a new peak for the season at 280cm! Not bad for spring skiing. It is heavy in the village but at -5 degrees up top it is sure to be good up there so get high as soon as can. Have not heard on the gondola opening yet but think will […]
Season’s Peak Revisited
Season’s Peak Revisited Season’s Peak Revisited Back to peak base for the season after another White Night The snow gods have gifted us another 14cm of fresh up top overnight pushing the base at Yamabiko back to 230cm which is the equal peak this season. Think we should surpass that on Sunday morning all going well. Waking to a nice blanket of snow in the village this morning too. Not a lot down here as was a bit wet yesterday evening with temps in the village hovering just above freezing point so it didn’t really start settling until the early hours. Yesterday was another great March winters day on the hill and should be similar conditions today. Had […]
Marching In To More Snow
Marching In To More Snow Marching In To More Snow Marching in to more snow in Nozawa A bit of a break in the snow here this morning after it snowed most of the day yesterday. It was heavy at times and the resort reporting another 10cm of fresh snow for the top overnight. Almost no wind this morning and with the clearer skies and fresh powder remaining it should be an awesome day on the slopes. Yesterday was pretty amazing especially up high early with abundant powder for everyone. It got a bit sticky down low later funnily but the top remained good. Starting with the consistent -6 degrees up a Yamabiko again this morning and looking like […]
Magic March Strikes Again
Magic March Strikes Again Magic March Strikes Again That old “March Magic” strikes again in Nozawa Waking up to a white paradise with snow dumping this morning gifting us with a beautiful fresh layer of powder to enjoy on the slopes today. The resort is reporting 10cm overnight but the snow machine is still going strong and we should see at least another 10cm fall throughout today. After yesterday’s sunny morning and an awesome day up on the mountain with ideal visibility and riding conditions we’re headed for a wintery March by the looks. Nice and cold up top and being a Monday most people are back to work at their desks in Tokyo so leaves the few powder […]
Fire and Snow Nozawa Onsen
Fire and Snow Nozawa Onsen Fire and snow Nozawa Onsen After an amazing day of fresh snow on the mountain yesterday the skies cleared and set the scene for a magical night for the annual spring Lantern Festival. Temps were cold but the fire twirlers, flare run and Fire works finale kept spirits high. Sunshine After Powder Days
Sunshine After Powder Days A bit of sun after the last few days of powder fun Great time to be in Nozawa, we have had an epic few days on the hill with this late February snow fall. Tuesday was amazing when the snow just kept falling and yesterday was just as good with plenty of powder up for grabs all over and amazing conditions under foot on the slopes. It snowed lightly most of the day and was nice and cold keeping everything fresh. Plenty of smiles sliding down the slopes all day. Was almost surprised to see the sun and blue skies this morning but the fair weather skiers will be revelling and it is going to […]
Nozawa’s Late Season Game-Changer
Nozawa’s Late Season Game-Changer Nozawa’s Late Season Game-Changer Waking up to another 20cm of fresh snow overnight. Total of this Siberian Snow storm to 75cm and changing the landscape here in a few short days. Last week I was gong to hang up the powder planks for the season, this morning they are waxed and waiting at the door step as the snow continues to fall here in Nozawa. Yesterday snowed all day and was fantastic and today could be even better. Tracks were getting filled and the bottom was soft as we lapped the courses up at Yamabiko. The added bonus of this time of the season is there is not too many people about to […]
