Finally T-Shirt weather in Nozawa
Finally T-Shirt weather in Nozawa Finally T-Shirt weather in Nozawa Yesterday was the first day since about October that I was comfortable to wear a T-Shirt in town. Have seen a few other crazy people bearing their arms earlier in the season but yesterday was a beautiful sunny day. Great day to clean the snow off the solar panels and get them to work. On the hill was also awesome especially early the snow up top was beautiful with views to match. Naturally it got slushy later but a fun day was had by all. Today should be more of the same. Fairly busy weekend with the Top to Bottom race happening tomorrow. It is probably the last […]
Half a meter March Nozawa
Half a meter March Nozawa Half a meter March Nozawa Half a meter of snow for mid March in Nozawa! Report just in from the resort and they are reporting 45cm of fresh snow for the top at Yamabiko. We didn’t get anywhere near that in town but up top with the colder temps looks like was going hard all night. The base has also jumped to a new peak for the season at 280cm! Not bad for spring skiing. It is heavy in the village but at -5 degrees up top it is sure to be good up there so get high as soon as can. Have not heard on the gondola opening yet but think will […]
March Peak Snow Nozawa
March Peak Snow Nozawa Winter go home you’ve had one too many! Boom another Magic Foot overnight and the snow tap is still turned fully on this morning. We have hit peak base for the season today sitting at 260cm up at Yamabiko after yesterday’s top up and last nights 25cm. This has eclipsed the previous peak of 230cm. Not bad for March 10th! There must be close to a foot in town too and it is light. Will be a great day for the powder hounds, would be tempted to say one of the best of the season. Our sincere apologies to anyone the came to Nozawa for Spring skiing this March. Winter is still in control. If keen […]
Season’s Peak Revisited
Season’s Peak Revisited Season’s Peak Revisited Back to peak base for the season after another White Night The snow gods have gifted us another 14cm of fresh up top overnight pushing the base at Yamabiko back to 230cm which is the equal peak this season. Think we should surpass that on Sunday morning all going well. Waking to a nice blanket of snow in the village this morning too. Not a lot down here as was a bit wet yesterday evening with temps in the village hovering just above freezing point so it didn’t really start settling until the early hours. Yesterday was another great March winters day on the hill and should be similar conditions today. Had […]
Marching In To More Snow
Marching In To More Snow Marching In To More Snow Marching in to more snow in Nozawa A bit of a break in the snow here this morning after it snowed most of the day yesterday. It was heavy at times and the resort reporting another 10cm of fresh snow for the top overnight. Almost no wind this morning and with the clearer skies and fresh powder remaining it should be an awesome day on the slopes. Yesterday was pretty amazing especially up high early with abundant powder for everyone. It got a bit sticky down low later funnily but the top remained good. Starting with the consistent -6 degrees up a Yamabiko again this morning and looking like […]

Tour Resorts near Nozawa
Tour Resorts near Nozawa Getting off the beaten track with a bit of Cow Farming. Nagano Prefecture where Nozawa Onsen is located has the most ski resorts of any state in Japan with 85 in total. If you were to combine that with nearby Nigata Prefecture we have 130 resorts within easy striking distance and only a 2 hour train ride away from Tokyo to Iiyama to get to to the centre of it all. Towards the end of the season when things start to slow down we often head off to check out some of the lesser known ski areas nearby. In March we jumped in the old Hiace and drove just over an hour to the unique little […]
Family Ski Trip Nozawa Japan
Family Ski Trip Nozawa Japan Living a whole month in Nozawa Onsen in April Check out this great little clip put together by Jade and Jason a lovely couple from Cairns in Australia that recently spent a whole month in Nozawa Onsen. They caught the last month of the ski season, the Cherry Blossoms and a whole lot of fun, food and culture with the locals in between. With peak times of January starting to fill up, for families looking at getting the kids over to Japan for a ski holiday April is worth a look for sure. If you are after cold deep powder days forget it, although we can still get the occasional snow fall in the first […]
