Gondola Open Summer Nozawa
Gondola Open Summer Nozawa How did you like the new Gondola? This was the 3rd season of operation of the new Nagasaka Gondola but the first that overseas guests got to ride in it. For all those that did what did you think? Talking to guests this season some of the highlights were; Much quicker ride to the top in half the time of the old one, just 8 minutes. Barely time to deice and refit the kids. Better landing spot being that little bit higher so can slide down to Yamabiko lifts with ease instead of walking up Bigger windows with amazing views on the new flight path Comfy seats for 10 people to ride in style Easier access […]
MARCH BASE UPDATE NOZAWA
MARCH BASE UPDATE NOZAWA It’s all about the base At this time of the year it is all about the base and we still have a solid one just sitting at 2.5 Meters up top at Yamabiko. This opening shot just 2 days ago. All these sunny spring days naturally chip away at it but the winds have been light so there isn’t that hair dryer affect that can melt it fast. Looks like tomorrow we will see a nice dip in temps and a bit of a snow top up too and we are hoping for another few light top ups throughout March. So the big question is when will the Ski Season run until? Most years we make […]
DOG FRIENDLY NOZAWA ONSEN
DOG FRIENDLY NOZAWA ONSEN Nozawa’s furry friends If you’ve been riding in Nozawa you may have noticed that some of our star skiers and snowboarders happen to be dogs! They’re super speedy on the slopes and are always dressed for the weather with their boots and jackets. These rugged up dogs are a very cute addition to the Nozawa slopes. The fog is still hanging around this morning but will hopefully lift mid day. We are in for a great day of skiing. Groomers will be the pick this morning with the spring slush being fast and fun in the afternoon. Hit the park early as well before the sun hits the slopes. It will be a balmy warm spring […]
FAMILY HOLIDAY NOZAWA ONSEN
FAMILY HOLIDAY NOZAWA ONSEN We have been asked many times, what is the perfect age to start skiing? There really isn’t the ‘perfect’ age. Kids are unpredictable and the snow is the perfect environment for them to showcase this. However, there are a few things that can be the difference between a good day and a bad one. Head here to see what advice we have; https://www.nozawaholidays.com/holiday-nozawa-onsen-japan/when-to-start-skiing-snowboarding/ 7mm of rainfall is predicted for this morning in the village, and it is expected to ease off into the afternoon. But, with rain in the village we have our fingers crossed for snow on the mountain. There are expected snow showers throughout the day up on the slopes. With this front on […]
TOWN ORIENTATION NOZAWA ONSEN
TOWN ORIENTATION NOZAWA ONSEN One of my favourite Japanese words is Shibui, meaning “old school cool”, I think perfectly describes the locals in Nozawa. Many of the parents and the older folk have such a sick sense of style and they’re always up and about, they truly are a real special part of he Nozawa Onsen tapestry. Yet another glorious sunny day in Nozawa onsen. Winds are light and variable from the SW pushing warmer air from Okinawa towards us in the foothills. Temperatures are set to be in the positives again with a max of 7 degrees on top of the mountain and a max of 16 degrees in town. Should be clear skies and great visibility with clouds […]
TRIP TO OBUSE NOZAWA
TRIP TO OBUSE NOZAWA Paradise, not just a slope in Nozawa We have had some beautiful sun filled days this week in Nozawa Onsen. The weather has been glorious, we still have awesome snow coverage across the mountain, and there have been less crowds, making it much easier to snag a table at your favourite restaurant. The slopes have been fast and fun, with the groomers leaving us fresh corduroy every morning. We have clear skies and sunshine on the menu again for today. Temperatures will be spring like again with warmer temperatures. A max of 5 degrees on top of the mountain and a max of 14 degrees in the village. Winds are light and variable from the SW, […]
BUDGET TRAVEL NOZAWA ONSEN
BUDGET TRAVEL NOZAWA ONSEN Powder in March?! On top of the mountain today we could see 20cm+ fall throughout the day. Low hanging cloud this morning in town obscuring the top of mountain meaning the cold front has arrived. Today will be a great day on the slopes as the day progresses. With heavier snow fall expected in the afternoon. Winds will intensify from the NW as the day goes on pushing temps and wind chill into the negatives and wind chill of -19, on top of the mountain. Snow fall should fill in tracks as the day goes on so best conditions will be in the afternoon if you want some powder but groomers early on will be awesome […]
Cafe Melia Nozawa Onsen
Cafe Melia Nozawa Onsen “Cake is most important” A philosophy Masa and Akane famously live by. Akane makes her cupcakes in store, completely vegan and served cold. I have tried and love them all. Masayuki and Akane opened their café and skate shop in 2017 in Nozawa Onsen, a small village situated in the Nagano Prefecture. Masa sells all things skateboarding while Akane makes all things delicious. Masa moved to Nozawa in either 2011 or 2012, he can’t quite remember, after living in Vancouver for three years. In the summer, he works on the mountain building terrain and tracks for mountain biking troops, a sport quite popular for those in the village amid the hotter months. In the winter, Masa […]
