SNOGA RETREAT NOZAWA ONSEN Here comes the Sun… Cloud cover is still lingering this morning from yesterdays snow/rain. But it is expected to clear throughout the day. A light dusting up the top with a total of about 5cm that fell yesterday. The trees are doing their Nozawa thing, looking beautiful and snow covered up on the mountain. Hit the groomers as they will be the best pick for today. With colder temperatures last night and today there won’t be so much spring slush but carving will be the go under these favourable conditions. Winds are light and variable blowing in from the NW hence the colder temperatures, at around -4 degrees and the wind chill is sitting relative for […]

DOG FRIENDLY NOZAWA ONSEN
DOG FRIENDLY NOZAWA ONSEN Nozawa’s furry friends If you’ve been riding in Nozawa you may have noticed that some of our star skiers and snowboarders happen to be dogs! They’re super speedy on the slopes and are always dressed for the weather with their boots and jackets. These rugged up dogs are a very cute addition to the Nozawa slopes. The fog is still hanging around this morning but will hopefully lift mid day. We are in for a great day of skiing. Groomers will be the pick this morning with the spring slush being fast and fun in the afternoon. Hit the park early as well before the sun hits the slopes. It will be a balmy warm spring […]

The weather has been glorious, we still have awesome snow coverage across the mountain, and there have been less crowds, making it much easier to snag a table at your favourite restaurant. The slopes have been fast and fun, with the groomers leaving us fresh corduroy every morning. We have clear skies and sunshine on the menu again for today. Temperatures will be spring like again with warmer temperatures. A max of 5 degrees on top of the mountain and a max of 14 degrees in the village. Winds are light and variable from the SW, […]
REST AND SUNSHINE NOZAWA
REST AND SUNSHINE NOZAWA Oh what a night! Last night was awesome! There were fireworks, sake, Naski came out to say hi and we saw a beautiful display of lights across the slope. A super special evening for those in Nozawa. Today we are in for much of the same as yesterday. With partial clear skies and scattered clouds rolling over throughout the day. We are set to see the sun shine through majority of the day giving us glorious spring conditions. On top of the mountain temps will sit around -2 for most of the day. Winds are light from the S, with visibility being optimal. The groomers will be the pick today with great conditions for carving, if […]
Emperors Birthday Holiday Nozawa
Emperors Birthday Holiday Nozawa Yesterday must have felt like everyones birthday in Nozawa. What an awesome day. The sun was out, the trees were magic and the snow was on point. Another awesome day of powder in store for all those heading up the mountain. With so much having fallen in the past 72 hours there is still so much powder to be had. The groomers will be perfect for carving and powder on the sides or in between the trees. Today should be a bit warmer than yesterday with a chill factor in the high negatives of -7, with minimal wind. Visibility on the mountain should be great again today with no snow predicted throughout and the sun should […]
Rainy Day Activities Nozawa
Rainy Day Activities Nozawa Good day for an Onsen After some amazing powder days and some truly glorious sunny days here in Nozawa, this morning as forecast the warmer temps have delivered some rain. It started last night and was pretty light but a bit more this morning. We are at the mercy of the southerly wind shift driving that warmer Okinawa current our way. Good news is the low pressure will move and change the wind direction and temps very soon and will see snow start to fall up top later today. Then it will intensify over the next 24 hours and bring with it some serious cold temps and snow fall. So for today maybe hit an onsen […]
Nearby Ski Fields Nozawa
Nearby Ski Fields Nozawa Nozawa Onsen is the perfect base to go and explore other nearby ski fields from. In fact, there are 102 ski resorts in the Nagano prefecture. And many of them are only within one to two hours drive from our village. Due to Japan’s epic public transport, there are trains and buses that also link up these other mountain resorts. You can also rent a car for a day or two from nearby Iiyama. Nozawa Onsen will always be our favourite ski resort, but if you’re looking to change things up, try some new terrain, and seek some new views then we highly recommend going for an explore. Most ski fields in Japan have pretty cheap […]
Snowstorm beginning Nozawa Onsen
Snowstorm beginning Nozawa Onsen The past weekend has been unusually spring-like and warm, with slushy, sticky snow conditions! One can’t complain about the blue skies though as they truly lift your spirits compared to being surrounded by dark, grey clouds. I popped off to Myoko Kogen over the weekend, skiing at Ikenotaira. It was a beautiful small field with epic views down onto the lower plains, over to the Sea of Japan and you can even spot Nozawa Onsen and the Skyline run in the distance. They have a nifty jump park and would be a great slope to take your family for the day. No wild boars were spotted during my weekend – have you seen the video going […]
Ski Resorts Near Nozawa
Ski Resorts Near Nozawa The clouds have lifted and dissolved away revealing a big blue sky. The stars were out last night, glittering away and reflecting their light on the snow! The sun has just peeked over Mt Kenashi this morning as I type this. It’s going to be a brilliant day up on the mountain, complete visibility and endless views down to Nozawa Onsen, over the hills to Myoko and if you’re lucky, even a glimpse of the Sea of Japan on the horizon. Warmer temperatures will mean spring-like riding conditions – put on that sunscreen and we’ll see you for a beer at Buna or for Aprés ski at the day’s end at Neo Bar. Other skiing: Did […]
Snow Monkeys Nozawa Onsen
Snow Monkeys Nozawa Onsen We were expecting to wake up to light snow this morning but the sun us still winning at this stage. Have a feeling the snow will kick in soon though and will get heavier throughout the day. One of the most special sites to see in Nagano, our prefecture, are the snow monkeys. Just over the hill in Yudanaka National Park, you can find the furry creatures relaxing, playing and bathing in the warm natural spring waters. There’s also an Onsen you can relax in yourself and the monkeys may come and join you! The Jigokudani Monkey Park (Jigokudani Yaen Koen, 地獄谷野猿公苑) was created in 1964, as a conservation area to protect the Japanese macaques who […]
