Finally T-Shirt weather in Nozawa Finally T-Shirt weather in Nozawa Yesterday was the first day since about October that I was comfortable to wear a T-Shirt in town. Have seen a few other crazy people bearing their arms earlier in the season but yesterday was a beautiful sunny day. Great day to clean the snow off the solar panels and get them to work. On the hill was also awesome especially early the snow up top was beautiful with views to match. Naturally it got slushy later but a fun day was had by all. Today should be more of the same. Fairly busy weekend with the Top to Bottom race happening tomorrow. It is probably the last […]

A March to remember in Nozawa
A March to remember in Nozawa A March to remember in Nozawa Locals often say some years when we don’t get so much snow in January and February then March goes into overdrive. That has certainly been the case this year with many that have been here since early December calling yesterday as good as it gets. We were still getting fresh lines at 3pm yesterday afternoon. The mountain actually got another 20cm during the day on top of the 45cm we had overnight. On February 21st we had only a 160cm base and things were looking grim for March. Yesterday we hit 295cm base almost double that of just over 3 weeks ago! Today is going to […]
Season’s Peak Revisited
Season’s Peak Revisited Season’s Peak Revisited Back to peak base for the season after another White Night The snow gods have gifted us another 14cm of fresh up top overnight pushing the base at Yamabiko back to 230cm which is the equal peak this season. Think we should surpass that on Sunday morning all going well. Waking to a nice blanket of snow in the village this morning too. Not a lot down here as was a bit wet yesterday evening with temps in the village hovering just above freezing point so it didn’t really start settling until the early hours. Yesterday was another great March winters day on the hill and should be similar conditions today. Had […]
Marching In To More Snow
Marching In To More Snow Marching In To More Snow Marching in to more snow in Nozawa A bit of a break in the snow here this morning after it snowed most of the day yesterday. It was heavy at times and the resort reporting another 10cm of fresh snow for the top overnight. Almost no wind this morning and with the clearer skies and fresh powder remaining it should be an awesome day on the slopes. Yesterday was pretty amazing especially up high early with abundant powder for everyone. It got a bit sticky down low later funnily but the top remained good. Starting with the consistent -6 degrees up a Yamabiko again this morning and looking like […]
Fire and Snow Nozawa Onsen
Fire and Snow Nozawa Onsen Fire and snow Nozawa Onsen After an amazing day of fresh snow on the mountain yesterday the skies cleared and set the scene for a magical night for the annual spring Lantern Festival. Temps were cold but the fire twirlers, flare run and Fire works finale kept spirits high. Fire has long been part of the culture in Nozawa with the famous Fire Festival and last night did not disappoint. Did we mention what an awesome day it was on the slopes with over 20cm of fresh snow. This morning is starting as a beautiful sunny day but hang on to your Beanie as snow is expected to fall again tonight and we should see […]
Good Looking Week Ahead
Good Looking Week Ahead Good looking week ahead for Nozawa After what was probably not the best week of the season the next week is looking good starting tonight with snow expected and set to continue all day tomorrow and into Tuesday. Today is looking fun out there, some high level cloud cover so visibility looks good up top and the trees have a white coat at Yamabiko. The groomers should be fast early and crowds should start to dissipate as the day goes on. The long weekend was busy around town but I predict it will be a lot quieter from tomorrow and then quieter again from next week as we hit March. We had a last […]
February Long Weekend Nozawa
February Long Weekend Nozawa February Long Weekend Nozawa – Snowy Sunday morning in Nozawa Waking up to a winter wonderland here in Nozawa Onsen with the “Magic Foot” plus a little or 35cm deposited on the slopes overnight. Temps nice and cold and the snow flakes still lofting nicely from the sky. It will be a busy day so get up early if you can and make the most of the boot deep powder. Yesterday was a beautiful clear day so will be a nice contrast to have the snow today. Don’t forget the 100 Year celebrations taking place on the Nagsaka Slope tonight from 19:30 and Fireworks from 20:30 always very pretty to see against the snowy backdrop. The […]
Frosty Snow Endless Fun
Frosty Snow Endless Fun Snowy Delights, Memorable Nights: Winter Fun Takes Flight Long awaited big snowflakes falling over Nozawa yesterday across the village and the mountain covering slopes in fresh layer of snow. Today the visibility is looking much better with the winds and snowfall both easing off which should make it a perfect riding day. A little throwback to the 100th Anniversary of Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort celebration we had on Wednesday by the Nagasaka station with locals dressed in old school, historical and traditional outfits taking us on a nostalgic trip through the last century of skiing shenanigans. Perfect Day Slopes Nozawa
Perfect Day Slopes Nozawa An amazing day on the slopes awaits in Nozawa! After 3 days of non stop snow the Snow gods are taking a break this morning in Nozawa. The resort reporting another 17cm of fresh snow overnight bringing the total of this storm close to the 1 meter mark. It was coming down heavy in town last night. Yesterday the top of the mountain was not accessible due to wind hold on the Gondola. But today winds have eased, skies have cleared, lifts look all set to open and all that untouched powder awaits. There will be plenty of hungry powder hounds waiting in the queue to get first tracks. Grab a coffee and get […]
Powder Days Nozawa Onsen
Powder Days Nozawa Onsen The snow just keeps falling in Nozawa Boom another Magic Foot of snow overnight and the base now at 230cm the peak for the season so far. Full winter conditions out my window at the moment with snow still falling, cold temps and chilly winds blowing. It is going to be wild and wooly up there today but the powder treasures will be worth it. Yesterday was similar conditions and the heavy snow kept going all day. We received over 20cm throughout the day. Visibility is naturally limited but better towards the lower mountain. Which is lucky today as the Nagasaka Gondola is on wind hold. Looks like most other lifts and the Hikage […]
