Runs Open Nozawa Onsen Uenotaira Run open to slide in Nozawa Always good when the resort opens up this long gentle slope as gives some good terrain for the beginners. Yamabiko is great but getting off the top lifts can be a bit daunting for newbies to the sport of skiing or boarding. Uenotaira means the top flat area and is a 2km long run so plenty of time to practice your turns. Who here loves this run? Snowing lightly up top at the moment and just a few centimetres recorded today on top of a 40cm base. Good news is temps are set to drop tonight down to -8 degrees up top and we could see up to 20cm […]

Snow Season Update Japan
Snow Season Update Japan Before and After in Nozawa Was a beautiful drive up the mountain yesterday and watching the snow flakes loft from the sky into Lake Sutaka behind Uenotaira truly majestic. Check out both shots for the difference between White and Green Seasons in Nozawa. Snow Season Update Japan A bit of sunshine today and looking white up on the slopes all they away down to Paradise. Only a very thin layer though and the Ski Resort has decided to postpone opening this Saturday. They are however using the snow blowers at full tilt, however if we get the 70cm forecast over the next few days doubt they will need them. It would not surprise me if they […]
Travel Bubble Australia Japan
Travel Bubble Australia Japan Who is getting excited about Winter? The Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort still has the opening date for the 27th of November just 10 days away! Looking at the mountains currently you would have to say it is unlikely but there is a cold change on the way. Check out the forecast attached. Next Tuesday temps are set to drop and at the moment over 30cm of fresh snow forecast to fall. Just in time for the opening weekend. Could this combined with the new snow making facilities be enough to see the lifts turn in November? Anyway a lot can happen in the stratosphere in a week so will have to wait and see but either […]
First Snow Nozawa 2022
First Snow Nozawa 2022 The Powder Hounds were out yesterday in Nozawa Looking like a bit of a winter wonderland up top at Yamabiko yesterday with a decent coverage of snow across the slopes. Not enough to get any lifts turning but the main Nagasaka Gondola is open until the end of October so if head up today there should still be enough to make a snowman and throw some snowballs at your friends. Looks like we may get some more snow tonight with temps remaining below 0 degrees up top. Then a southerly change on Monday will see some more Autumn days again. It is a bit rare to get these falls in mid October so let’s hope it […]
Travel Australia Japan Ski
Travel Australia Japan Ski Keen to get back on the Slopes? You are not the only one! This shot from Nozawa I am guessing in the 60’s. It was a popular place even back then and there were a lot less slopes to choose from than there are now. So the skiers were more concentrated. When I first started to ski in Nozawa 30 years ago we didn’t even have the Yamabiko area so it was a big thing when the resort opened that up and put in the Nagasaka Gondola. Some promising news for our friends in Australia coming out the last few days too and looks like they could be able to Travel Internationally again by November. Of […]

Well, the answer is both yes and no. It largely depends on where you’re visiting in Japan. The Japanese Perspective Japanese and western views on tattoos differ considerably.
