First Day Nozawa Season A November to remember in Nozawa. I can’t remember the last time I got to ski in November and it felt good. The snow was a mix of natural and man made but there was ample cover on the run that was open. Was fast and firm in the morning and softened up a bit as the day went on. The snow also kicked in after lunch and got pretty heavy into the afternoon. The snow continued overnight and the resort reporting 12cm of fresh overnight. Was fairly quiet up top yesterday but a few guests and a mix of excited new seasonal staff. Think will be pretty quiet most of the week ahead of the […]

November Snow Nozawa Japan
November Snow Nozawa Japan When love comes to town in Nozawa Everyone loves the look and feel of a fresh snow fall. Especially the first big one of the ski season. Nozawa and many parts of Japan got blanketed with a fresh coat of beautiful white overnight. No official figures out but reckon we got close to the “Magic Foot” or 30xcm of snow up top on the slopes. It snowed all the way down to the village where it was still falling nicely this morning. Temps hovering just above 0 degrees in town and set to continue snowing the rest of the day. Myoko Suginohara Nozawa Onsen
Myoko Suginohara Nozawa Onsen Staring at Sugi When you gaze across the valley from Nozawa you pick up amazing views of Mt Myoko and Mt Hiuchi. Two formidable mountains, both sitting at an elevation of just under 2500 meters above sea level with Mt Hiuchi winning by a few meters. Myoko Kogen is graced with 5 ski resorts and Suginohara is one of them that stares right back at us in Nozawa. It is only a 49 minute drive from Nozawa Onsen so another great option to explore for a day trip. Having been to Suginohara a fair few times over the past 30 years but last season was the first time to ride the lifts. Usually we just use […]
First Snow Nozawa Season
First Snow Nozawa Season First snow of the season for Nozawa Onsen As forecast a cold front swept across Japan yesterday and brought with it sub zero temps for the top of Nozawa and our first snow fall of the season! All the web cams are not online yet so cannot see the very top but Uenotaira looks like it got a decent dusting. Up in the higher alps at Tateyama sitting at 2370m above Sea Level they received a “Magic Foot” of fresh snow. The first snow of last season for Nozawa Onsen was on November 16th so nice to see it early the year. Unfortunately as expected not much of a follow up performance with clear skies and […]
Powder Flowers Nozawa Onsen
Powder Flowers Nozawa Onsen Powder or Flowers which do you prefer? Another great Summer vs Winter contrast taken in the same spot down a small alleyway in Nozawa Onsen. The photos were taken 6 months apart and amazing the difference. The first with the snowy scene in late February and the second a week or so ago in the warmth of Summer. Up top next week could see the mercury drop as low as 3 degrees as the march into Winter begins. The beautiful fall or “Koyo” will start to unravel soon too and a beautiful time to explore the surrounding mountains. Nozawa is definitely a destination for all seasons check out more on Autumn in Nozawa here; https://www.nozawaholidays.com/nozawa-onsen-summer/autumn-travel-nozawa-japan/

Nozawa Ski Open Date
Nozawa Ski Open Date The Million Yen question that we often get asked. Especially by Singaporeans. When will the Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort Open? Really wish I had a Crystal Ball big enough to give me the divine answer. The answer is we have no idea yet! The Ski resort will usually try and open on the last weekend of November if there is enough snow or it is cold enough for snow making as we have the Snow Making Machines now. But after 30 years of snow seasons in Nozawa all I can tell you is it varies. On average I would say over the years it opens around December 10th. Some years earlier some later. Nozawa Ski Open […]
