Christmas Trees in March in Nozawa
A bit of a return to Winter this morning in Nozawa Onsen. Just a dusting in the village but 8cm of fresh snow recorded up top and with the sub zero temps the trees are looking nice and white. Temps sitting at -3 degrees up top and base at 340cm. Pretty wintery for late March and nice to see Mother Nature chilling out in Spring,. The whole town is pumping too with the long weekend crowd. Probably as busy as any weekend during peak winter so great to see.

“Der Weisse Rausch” Top to bottom downhill race also took place yesterday with a great turn out of skiers and boarders flying down the slopes from Yamabiko to the goal house at the bottom of Kandahar. Always fun to enter or watch and hope to see a few of our overseas friends here to check it out next year. It was all followed by a Parade thru the Village streets last night and a look back on the history of skiing in Japan.
Tomorrow is the public holiday for Equinox Day known as Shunbun no Hi. It marks the end of winter and the arrival of spring. The day is intended to celebrate the love of nature and living things. So what better way than to celebrate it in the mountains with friends.
On the forecast the light snow will ease through out the day, winds easing too and temps set to drop overnight. Tomorrow should be another beautiful winter type day for everyone up enjoying the holiday. Not much snow expected but temps will be cold. It should remain cool most of the week ahead of a strong southerly change on Friday and with it some spring temps. Have a great weekend and thanks so much to everyone that has come up to visit. If have not been able to make it this weekend we hope to see you next season. Busy times are filling fast with everyone keen for their snow and Japan fix.
