The sun is shining bright over Nozawa today, offering perfect visibility for carving those freshly groomed slopes. The weather is quite mild, with plenty of sunshine to enjoy, but here’s some exciting news: winds are set to pick up next week, hopefully bringing back the heavy snowfall we’ve all been waiting for!
Yesterday’s sunny skies and warmer weather didn’t stop the snow from staying in great condition, thanks to last week’s fresh snowfall and consistently below-zero temperatures.
If you’re a beginner looking for fun and accessible slopes, we’ve got you covered. Apart from Uenotaira, accessible via the Nagasaka Gondola, Hikage Station is another fantastic spot. With easy slopes to build your confidence, a great selection of restaurants and cafes, stunning views, and access to the higher parts of the mountain via the Hikage Gondola, it’s the perfect place to start your adventure.

The forecast for Nozawa Onsen looks promising, with snowfall and cold temps ahead. Light snow is expected from Thursday night till Sunday morning, with temperatures at the summit ranging from -4°C to -7°C during the day. Heavier snow is forecast on Friday, January 31, with colder conditions, dropping to -24°C at night at the top! Winds will generally be mild (10-20 km/h) but could reach 40 km/h on next Friday, reducing visibility and adding wind chill. Prepare for chilly conditions with snowfall from Friday and enjoy great visibility for now while it lasts!
