Much-awaited fire festival is finally taking place today! The festival kicks off at 7p.m. but make sure to stay until 10p.m. when the fire reaches its peak!

You need to have a ticket to attend the main arena. You can only get a ticket if you stay in Nozawa Onsen. Sorry but no outside guests allowed. Please get your ticket from the lodge you are staying at. One ticket per group or family so we need to enter together. Please present the ticket at the entry gates. They will take half and give you back the other half which you will need to re enter if you leave.

Be sure to join in the excitement, follow the festival rules, and dress warmly as embers may fall around the viewing areas. Let’s celebrate together! Check the timetable in yesterday’s post.

 

 

Rules of the Dosojin Fire Festival

1.⁠ ⁠The lighting of the fire and challenging is restricted to local villagers only. No one else is allowed to enter the roped off area.
2.⁠ ⁠Do not throw any objects. Respect people around you and don’t chant. No drones allowed
3.⁠ ⁠Only participating members are allowed to climb the shrine (42-year-old villagers)
4.⁠ ⁠No drinking in the arena except for participants in the festival. Take all rubbish when you leave.
5.⁠ ⁠Please take care of friends and have the name of your lodge or bus company on you somewhere, perhaps in a lift pass armband.
6.⁠ ⁠We do not take responsibility for any damage or injury. Take care of nylon clothing as it can easily burn. It’s probably best not to bring valuable items with you.
7.⁠ ⁠This festival is a tradition that has been running since 1863. We ask you to please respect the local customs.
