Happy New Year, everyone! 🌟 The first day of 2025 has arrived with a gentle snowfall, adding some magic to the village and continuing through tomorrow. Last night, we welcomed the new year with celebrations at Nagasaka Station —night skiing under the stars, dazzling fireworks, and warming drinks that brought locals and visitors together. 🍶🎆 In Japan, New Year’s Eve is a time for reflection and renewal, celebrated with prayers for good fortune and a focus on fresh beginnings. In Nozawa Onsen, this spirit is woven into the village’s traditions and unique charm.

 

 

Looking ahead, we’re gearing up for the Dosojin Fire Festival, one of Nozawa’s most cherished events. Preparations start on January 13th with the sacred selection of five beech trees to build the shrine, which will be imbued with the spirit of Dosojin by a local priest. 🔥🌲

❄️ SNOW FORECAST:

Looks like the snowy times are set to continue for 2025. Good sized flakes lofting from the sky this morning to shake off the dust from last night. We should see some sunshine this afternoon. The near term it doesn’t look as hectic as has been this past month, for which many locals will be grateful. Still light to moderate snowfalls over this week. At this stage the next major system appears to be forming from Tuesday the 7th with another 3 day bender popping up on the radar. Could it be another Magnificent Meter? Will have to wait and see.
