Happy Australia Day from Nozawa
Nozawa Onsen Snow Report 26th of January 2021.
In recent years there has always been a bit going on this day with all of our awesome Aussie visitors celebrating Australia Day in the village. Feels a bit empty this year without you all and the smell of BBQs in the snow. Its a beautiful Sunny day too so would have been a great day to get outside. Some years it snows so heavy on this day we struggle to get the fire going.
Temp at the top; -2 degrees
New snow since close; 0 cm
Base at the top; 245 cm
Snow conditions; Fun conditions in the sunshine
Weather; Blue skies and meat pies
No fresh snow to report overnight but a cool start. It will probably be a bit icy early but soften under the sun. Good day to grab a beer at Buna and work on the tan. There are probably only a handful of Australians in town at the moment so sure they will be up there celebrating. It is a bit like 20 odd years ago when there was only one or two Aussies in the village most of the time.

Mark and Luke together with their Japanese w ives opened the first lodge in Nozawa catering to overseas guests. Most of which were Australians. They had 50 guests that first year and for a number of years the only overseas guests in town were pretty much staying at Lodge Nagano. Things are very different now at least until this year with Covid. There are usually lots of Aussies in the village. They would be our largest overseas numbers still but there are an increasing number of guests from Europe and the rest of Asia.
For all our guests from Down Under have a great day and we look forward to hopefully celebrating with you next year. Have a great day.
Stay safe and cheers from Nozawa
