Best Travel Nozawa Onsen
The Journey back to Nozawa
For some of you it has no doubt been a few years and for some maybe the first time to discover the magic of Nozawa Onsen. We can’t wait to welcome you back and with Japan’s borders opening in just 4 days everyone is getting very excited. We have some overseas guests arriving just a few days later so it is now feeing very real. For many heading up for a ski holiday you may be looking at the best options to get to Nozawa.
Nozawa is on the main island of Honshu and within easy striking distance of the capital Tokyo. Here are a few ways to travel to us
1. Snow Shuttle Bus – we have a bus that meets most flights from Narita and Haneda. Costs from 12000 Yen per person and takes about 5 Hours door to door. It is a no brainer very easy with all your luggage and the best way off a night flight for sure. Busy times fill quick so here is a link to book and for more info; https://www.nozawaholidays.com/shuttle-bus/
2. Train – with the Bullet Train reaching nearby Iiyama just a few years ago this is now the fastest way to the Snow in Nozawa from the Airport or Tokyo city. It involves a Train from the airport to Tokyo or Ueno station then Bullet Train from there to Iiyama Station. From there a bus meets most trains and it is just 20 mins to Nozawa. All up about a 4 hour trip and costs 10,500 Yen
3. Car – either rental or your own is also possible but probably our last recommendation unless you really want a car to explore other areas, you don’t need a car in Nozawa and with so much snow it can be more of a pain than a convenience. It takes about 5 hours from Narita and costs vary but cheapest about 7000 Yen a day x number of days, Tolls about 9000 yen plus petrol. Save the earth and the headaches and leave the car at home.
I did attempt the journey once on a bike but do not suggest it with a suitcase As you can see Times and Prices don’t differ so much our recommendations would be Shuttle Bus if want an easy transfer with bags, kids and gear it is simple with no transfers and get off in Nozawa. Train is amazing to experience if never done it before and in Japan they are always on time. Of course can do the same ways for the return.
