It’s hard to be disappointed with the weather we’re enjoying in Nozawa Onsen at the moment. The brilliant sun is bathing both mountain and village. It looks like that will continue for most of the coming week, making for some pretty spectacular spring skiing conditions. Thursday night is still looking like it might bring something of a change. Temperatures are forecast to drop for Friday and perhaps that might even bring a fresh dusting of snow to the mountain.
For now, however, the last few days of Magic March looks set to live up to its name and finish off in style. Of course, the end of March doesn’t mean the season is over by a long shot. Despite the seemingly early arrival of the spring season, there’s still quite a healthy base of snow up on the mountain. There’s still lots of great skiing to be had during April, which also brings with it other opportunities to enjoy both the mountain and town.
Spring skiing and beyond in Nozawa Onsen
The latter part of the ski season may not be perfect for everyone but it’s great for families. The kids will enjoy warmer temps while both lift passes and accommodation is discounted. It could be the perfect way to kick off further travel within Japan.
Beyond the Ski Season
Nozawa provides an incomparable insight in to Japanese culture during the Green Season too. The village reverts from ski resort to quiet farming village. In addition to activities like yoga, mountain biking, etc, there’s also a the opportunity to discover the Japanese way of life in a traditional village. As the snow melts and the crops grow, the fresh produce prepared in the restaurants is worth a visit on its own!
