The Morning Markets in Nozawa
Asaichi or Morning markets along the Main Street “Oyu Dori” in Nozawa creates a great little vibe in the village on a Sunday morning. Many of the local businesses and individuals come out and set up little street side stalls to pedal their wares. Fresh local produce, art and crafts, home-made jams, bread and even Sake lots of interesting things to browse and buy.
The market takes place every Sunday Morning from 6am to 730am from May to October. So you need to get up early, but it is nice and warm in summer and can start the day with a relaxing walk and an Onsen under the filtered morning light. Quite a contrast to the Main Street in most winter with the snow falling as in the second photo.

What time of year do you prefer in Nozawa Onsen? Winter or Summer or even Spring or Autumn. The beauty of Nozawa and most of Japan for that matter is that we have 4 distinct seasons and for me all as beautiful as the other
Like most things in Japan it is usually pretty much like clockwork too and the mood, temperature, colours and textures all seem to change when they are supposed to – 4 times of the year. I love experiencing all 4 seasons and the amazing changes that take place in the surrounding nature.
