Festive Week Nozawa Onsen
Great night in town last night with the long weekend Winter Festival. As always the History of Skiing Parade along with the Janken contest were a big hit.
We did get some rain unfortunately in the Village but the good news is it was cold enough up top to translate into some snow.
Just 5cm of fresh but it all helps and with cold temps up top overnight the Trees are looking picture perfect up top at Yamabiko this morning.
Festive Week Nozawa Onsen
Temperature up top: -2 degrees
New snow since close: 5cm
Base at top: 105cm
Snow conditions: Good up top.
Weather: Cloudy and light snow expected
Yesterday was fun in the morning but not as good in the afternoon, today should be decent conditions all day with light winds and a little bit of snow expected. A bit more on the cards for tomorrow morning. Looks like the resort have also opened Kandahar course today which is a great advanced run. Check out info on it and other runs in Nozawa here https://www.nozawaholidays.com/ski-resort/course-information/
We have been continually getting affected by low pressure systems gathering to the south of Japan and counter acting our usual Siberian storms from the North West this year. It creates a bit of a Monsoon type situation and temperatures are just a bit higher that we would like.
The good news is the forecast is looking promising with a good Snow then Sun balance over the next 12 days. Temperatures are still not super cold but up top generally around -5 degrees and some good snow falls expected every few days. Check out the forecast below, Nozawa also seems to have better conditions than many other resorts across Japan including up North.
