Snow is blanketing the mountain right now as I speak. We’ve got 5cm of fresh during the night to cover the slopes; not a lot but it could keep coming and accumulating over the day. The pistes were fast yesterday, though were becoming quite icy in parts so this snow should give us some more edge hold especially on the steeper terrain. Yamabiko was popular yesterday, with the best snow being found higher up and the weekend crowds all getting some last runs in before heading home last night. Now that we’re back to weekdays and well past school holidays, the mountain is usually fairly empty from Monday to Friday, and late Sunday afternoons as evidenced in the photo below! There’s nothing like having a whole run to yourself.
Looking ahead, it appears that Wednesday and Saturday are looking very cold —around -13° C for both days is on the cards. These days should bring us some great snow if the numbers in the forecast materialise into fluffy white snowflakes. The freezing level seems to be dropping as the week progresses which is great news, hopefully bringing some more snow right down to the village and making those last runs home all the more enjoyable.
