Late Season Nozawa Skiing
We’re officially in to late season skiing. Both lift ticket prices and accommodation are cheaper at this time of year. But will we get any fresh new snow?
Wednesday 4th of April
Temp at Top: 7℃
Weather: Mostly sunny
Base at top: 215cm
Base at Uenotaira station: 130cm
New snow since close: 0 cm
Let’s start with the not-so-great news and work our way up. There’s a fair bit of rain forecast for Friday night. The good news is that Saturday, Sunday and Monday have small amounts of fresh snow forecast for the top of the mountain. Of course, there’s also the chance that the temperatures will dip and bring a bit more.
Whichever way that plays out, we’ll have to wait and see. But we can also be a little optimistic about today, with a centimetre or two predicted for tonight. Right now it’s quite warm in the village and atop Mount Kenashi but those temps are said to take a dive this evening. The gauge will be back up tomorrow and Friday before falling Saturday and staying low for a few days. At present, the weekend looks most likely to yield snow.
With a month still left on the Spring Skiing calendar, there’s still plenty of time to get up to Nozawa Onsen before Golden Week arrives to signal the end of the season. We have reached that point where many of the lower runs are shut, however, discounted lift prices and accommodation surely make up for that. It’s a time of year especially good for families, both in terms of cost and kid-friendly temperatures. There’s still heaps of late season Nozawa skiing to be enjoyed!
