Late Spring Skiing Japan?
You could easily be forgiven for not believing this is the 24th of March and getting towards the tail end of the Ski Season in Japan. Today is full blown winter in parts of Japan. After checking the forecast we took a little road trip to nearby Shiga Kogen and it is delivering the goods. Around 30cm of fresh snow overnight, -9 degrees Celsius and still dumping hard. It is blizzard like conditions out there but for the brave is going to be an amazing day on the mountain.
Nozawa Onsen also got a very respectable 15cm of fresh overnight and looking at the cams it is all white again from top to bottom and -6 degrees up top. Pretty much all overseas guests and many workers have now gone home. The locals are back at work, so looks like just a few of us here to enjoy the spoils. I met a 65 year old retired gentleman out early this morning making his way to be first at the lift line. He looked at me with very excited eyes and all he could say was “Powder”. March Magic we love you.
