In the Powder In Nozawa – Local Tips and suggestions on what to see and do when visiting this special Village. This week we talk to Hiroko san and hear her take on all the cool things to do in Nozawa Onsen. Hiroko san is originally from Hyogo Ken in Japan near the famous city of Kyoto.
She has lived in Australia for several years now and has worked for Nozawa Holidays there and in Nozawa Onsen. You probably saw her name on your confirmation email if have been up to visit us as she is in charge of the accounts and does a terrific job. Like many Japanese people she used to snowboard when at Uni and just recently got back into it while working the season in Nozawa.

How many seasons have you been in Nozawa?

1 Full season but have been up a few times for work and to play
Why did you chose to come to Nozawa over other resorts?
なぜ他のリゾートではなく野沢温泉を選びましたか？
Because I was lucky enough to get a job for Nozawa Holidays while living in Byron Bay.
Do you speak much Japanese?

Yes a little 🙂 Have been studying English for a long time and now living in Tasmania so learning really Aussie English 🙂
What is your favourite and why?

- Onsen – Matsuba no Yu
- Restaurant In town and on the slopes – In town Kaze no Ie for Italian and on the slopes Yamabiko
- Coffee – Has to be Mt Dock Gondola Cafe
- Bar – Dont drink a lot but enjoy the Izakayas like Sakai and Tskuishinbo
- Run- Like the Trees at Yamabiko
- Lodging – Have to say Nozawa Central
- Cool thing to do – Foot Onsen with a One Cup of Sake 🙂

There are 13 free public onsens housed in quaint bath houses. Even for Japanese this is pretty special
What is your favourite day trip out of town ?
好きな日帰り旅行の目的地はどこですか？
Zenkoji Temple in Nagano. It is a beautiful area and amazing temple. Also some fantastic restaurants nearby. Just 12 minutes on the Shinkansen from Iiyama station so can be there in less than 1 hour from Nozawa
Something unique that people should try when visiting Nozawa Onsen ?

Public onsens and the local sake. We are lucky to have some of the most tasty water in Japan here in Nozawa with the natural springs. Local companies like Mizuo make some amazing Sakes so be sure to try them when visit. The guys at Villa Nozawa often host a Sake tasting night.
