Nozawa Onsen Snow Report 16th February 2019
It was just a dusting that we received overnight but still something. We’ve been having a pretty good time of things lately so any more is a bonus. There’s a bit around this morning which the forecast says will amount to a handful more falling steadily throughout the day and night. Tomorrow we might see a little bit but it’s mostly sunshine on the forecast for the beginning of next week. As mentioned, we have seen quite a bit fall recently so blue skies and sunshine is not a bad result. It should make for a great time to be out and about in the village and sliding down Mount Kenashi.
So what is the official word from the top of the mountain this morning?
At 10:00am;
Temp at the top; -4C
New snow since close; 3cm
New snow since 8 am; 2cm
Base at the top; 315cm
Weather; light snow
It’s probably a bit quieter on the runs now than it has been recently. However, the restaurants and bars are still open. Make sure you check out our Restaurant and Bar Guide to help you satiate thirsts and hungers. There’s plenty to choose from for such a small village and a lot of places have that family feel with produce grown locally. In winter, Nozawa Onsen bustles as a ski resort but in the Green Season, it turns back into a beautiful farming village.
In fact, Nozawa Onsen makes a peaceful (and relatively cool) retreat from the busy touristy spots during the warmer months. Have a look at the link below to find out what makes the town tick when the snow melts. The pace may be slower but the treasures still abound.
