Nozawa Onsen Snow Report 17th February 2019
It’s always nice to get a few more centimetres than we were promised. It seems to be what the forecasters for this area of the world are all about; under promise and over deliver. Not that we’re complaining, of course! We saw a fresh 10 centimetres fall upon Mount Kenashi overnight. It hasn’t really stopped either.
Looking forward, today might end up being the last powder day for a little while. So it’s probably best that we get out and enjoy it!
So what is the official word from the top of the mountain this morning?
At 10:00am;
Temp at the top; -7C
New snow since close; 10cm
New snow since 8 am; 11cm
Base at the top; 330 cm
Weather; light snow at the top/sun poking through the clouds elsewhere.
There’s just a bit of sunshine on the radar for the next week but it’s as good an excuse as any to start thinking about spring skiing in Nozawa Onsen. Assuming the snow Gods are on our collective side, we’ll be sliding atop Mount Kenashi right up until Golden Week in early May.
There are discounts to be had on both accommodation and ski lift passes. These take effect progressively from March and into glorious April. It creates the perfect storm for both family holidays and couples’ retreats alike. Cost-effective and slightly warmer on the extremities, spring skiing is actually favoured by many over the powder days of earlier in the season. Check out our spring skiing post below to find out why.
